A lateral pile load test provides field evidence of the pile–soil system’s response to horizontal loading.
But remember:
Lateral pile testing ≠ simply finding one capacity number.
Pile stiffness, soil profile, head restraint, ground conditions and the project’s performance criteria all matter.
Engineering takeaway:
Don’t ask only:
“What load did the pile reach?”
Also ask:
“How much did it move at each load level—and what does that response mean for the actual foundation?”
