Rules of Origin (ROO) are criteria used to determine the country of origin of a product in international trade. They affect duties, preferential tariffs, and trade compliance.

Used for: enforcing anti-dumping/safeguard measures • determining MFN or preferential treatment • trade statistics • labeling & marking • government procurement

Key criteria: change in tariff classification • regional value addition • substantial manufacturing or processing beyond minimal operations

In FTAs, ROO enables eligibility for preferential tariffs and prevents abuse of benefits by non-members

Certificate of Origin: issued by authorized bodies ensures compliance and access to preferential rates

Stronger Trade Ties Between India & Europe!

The Government of India has extended the RoDTEP Scheme till 31st March 2026, ensuring price stability and competitiveness for Indian exports. This benefits buyers with reliable sourcing across Domestic Tariff Area (DTA), SEZ, EOU, and Advance Authorisation exports.

At the same time, the India–EFTA Trade & Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) comes into effect from October 1, 2025, covering Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland. With digital Certificates of Origin (eCOO) through the Trade Connect ePlatform, importers can now enjoy faster customs clearance, transparent documentation, and trusted trade processes.

New U.S. Tariffs Effective October 1, 2025

President Donald Trump has announced significant import tariffs impacting various sectors:

100% Tariff on Branded Pharmaceuticals: Applies to imported branded or patented drugs, with exemptions for companies actively building U.S.-based manufacturing facilities. Generic drugs are excluded from this tariff.

50% Tariff on Kitchen Cabinets and Bathroom Vanities: Targeted at imported kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities to support domestic manufacturing.

30% Tariff on Upholstered Furniture: Imposed on imported upholstered furniture to protect U.S. manufacturers from foreign competition.

25% Tariff on Heavy Trucks: Aimed at imported heavy trucks to bolster the U.S. trucking industry.

Stay ahead in the diamond supply chain—here’s what the new Diamond Imprest Authorization (DIA) Scheme means for sourcing agents and export professionals:

According to official DGFT and government sources:

The DIA Scheme, effective April 1, 2025, allows duty-free import of natural cut and polished diamonds (under ¼ carat), with a required 10% value addition on export.

Eligibility: Exporters must hold at least Two-Star Export House status and achieve $15 million in diamond exports per annum over the past three years.

Import entitlement: Up to 5% of the average annual diamond exports, capped at $15M annually.

Exemptions include Basic Customs Duty, Additional Customs Duty, Education Cess, Anti-dumping Duty, Countervailing Duty, Safeguard Duty.
