18 Great Sales Books to Improve Your Sales Skills

These great sales books cover the basics of sales, social selling, building customer relationships, growing key accounts, networking and negotiating... it's all here.

Hoping to become a better salesperson? Looking for great sales books to read? You should be. (After all, Mark Cuban says his sales skills are what made him millions.)

Sales skills are important in any profession, even if your job description doesn't include the word "sales." You may need to convince others that your idea makes sense, to show your bosses or investors how a project or business will generate a return, to help your employees understand the benefits of a new process, etc.

In essence, sales skills are communication skills -- and communication skills are critical in any business or career.

The following list of great sales books comes from Mareo McCracken, the revenue leader at Movemedical. (He's one of the few people I follow on LinkedIn, since he often takes an unusual approach to overcoming challenges most of us face.)

Here's Mareo:

You can't get a PhD in sales. At least not a real one. It doesn't matter though; self-education is just as good, cheaper, and usually better.

Over the past eleven years, on average I've read about 60 books per year -- especially sales books. (I bet someone has read more sales books than me; I can't wait to meet them.)

The need for proper training and coaching is real. Hungry professionals crave growth. One of the most common questions I get asked, is: "What should I be reading?" Well that depends... until now. I went through my notes and experience with every book on sales I have ever read and spent hours curating the ultimate self-education course.

Here it is, for free. You're welcome. Share with others.

Process: Spend one week reading, studying, applying, and teaching each book.

Result: After four months you will have the greatest sales education foundation in the world.

These books are listed in order of when they should be read based on setting the proper mindset and then gradually building the skills needed to succeed in sales. Milk before meat. Mindset, then actions, then refinement.

1. The Outward Mindset -- The Arbinger Institute

The ability to see others for who they are changes everything. Every relationship you have in life will get better when you apply the strategies found in this book.

Is Your Product Not Selling Well ? Here is Why ?

Every week, business owners come to me complaining that the product or services they've worked so hard on creating just aren't selling.

What I've found is there's usually a disconnect between the product or service and the consumer. More often than not, it's because the business owner didn't have their audience in mind when creating their offering. Not even close.

Here's how to create a product that will sell itself, based on my experience self-publishing an Amazon best-selling book that still sells four years later.

Give your market what they want.
In order to create a product or service that people want to buy, you have to give them what they want.

Your market needs to feel like this product or service was made for them - even if it's something like a book that ends up in the hands of the masses.

So how do you do this? By asking your market.

Before launching my book, Make Money Your Honey, I got on the phone with 100 people in my target market to pick their brains.

The content that came out of those interviews became the premise for my book. The only thing I really did was provide answers to the questions and concerns they were expressing during those calls.

Since I had a pretty decent sampling size, I was able to see the patterns among many people. At that point, it was safe to assume that if an issue came up for 75 out of the 100 people that I interviewed, that it was likely coming up for a lot of other people as well.

Test your ideas before launching.
The next step is to test your ideas before launching. Seriously, don't put something out there until you've tested it and then tweaked it a few times based on feedback.

When I initially conducted those 100 interviews with people in my target market, I thought I was going to create a group coaching program, so I tested the idea.

What I realized was that instead of wanting a group program, what my audience really wanted was some sort of easy-to-read manual. This information is what caused me to scrap the group coaching idea and write a book instead.

Once I had a draft, I had a few people look at it and provide their feedback. Based on that information, I made the necessary tweaks.

Make your potential customers a part of the creation process.
This one tip will absolutely ensure that you create a product or service that sells. If you really want success with a product, make your potential customers a part of the creation process.

If you follow the first two suggestions in this article, then you are kind of already doing this. However, there are ways to take it a step further. Here are some of the things I did to make potential customers feel like they were writing and launching this book with me:

I posted constant social media updates - from announcing I'd finished a draft to showing a picture first proof of the physical book (even though the cover was off).
I got colleagues and friends involved. Many of them were more than happy to interview me on their platforms to help me spread the word. Lots of them even bought the book themselves!
Since I couldn't sell the proofs, I created a giveaway contest where the prize was a one of those copies. In order to enter, people had to share information about the book in several ways.
This was before the existence of things like Facebook Live and Periscope. Had live video been around back then I definitely would have been showing behind the scenes of the book creation process.

Final Thoughts
If you involve your market in the process of creating a service or product - from the initial research stage to the actual launch - you will increase your chances of creating something that will sell itself. The key is to tailor an offering based on the needs of your audience, not because you think you should put a specific offering out there.

Start Up Business Ideas !!

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ move has paved way for all the budding entrepreneurs and businessmen.

A study by the market research firm Zinnov said, India, which is home to about 4.88 crore small and medium business ( SMB )s provides employment to 81.16 million individuals and is all set to become the largest SME nation globally.

Micro enterprises account for 95% of total SMBs, small & medium put together hold the remaining 5% share and 55% of SMBs are located out of urban cities whereas 45% are situated in rural areas.

Technavio has released a new market research report on the global SMB and SME NAS market, which is expected to generate revenues of $18 billion between 2016 and 2020. The report also read that global SMB and SME NAS market is set to grow at a CAGR of 33% by 2020.

To be a start up owner, one does not necessarily have to belong to an entrepreneur, or businessmen family. It needs a strong idea, initial investment and enough courage to take that leap of faith.

Here are some ideas to help the under confident aspiring entrepreneurs and businessmen:

1. Professional Photographer:

To begin with, one needs a professional camera and some photography skills and you are set to start your startup.

There is a huge demand for professional photographers, as we live in the era of Instagram, YouTube and Facebook, where live runs purely on social media.

Be it a pre-wedding shoot, making a short film or web series, a professional photographer is what being looked out for.

If photography happens to your passion, you are half way through into the business, just learn the skill of making money.

2. Interior Designer:

If you have the creative ability to decorate houses, or if you want to follow this but lack some skills, there are a lot of colleges, which offer training.

The bottom line is if you really want to pursue this as your startup business, all you need is to bring super creative people under one roof and start working.

This work is very much in demand and there is cut throat competition, so to be in top, you have to be really different from others.

3. Printed T-shirt Retailer:

Starting an online retailer as a startup is a smart move, because unless you firm your roots in the retailer market, coming up with brick and mortar store might not be a good idea.

There is a huge demand for printed t-shirts, with funky, quirky and witty designs or quotations among the youth. One can venture into the field of online retailing with these merchandises and spread the brand and demand for such products.

One can also hire a creative team to come up with such one-liners and pictures or cartoons to paste on plain t-shirts.

4. Guides and Translators Provider:

There is a lot of foreigner flock in to different places from other states and countries as tourists and travelers, who do not speak or understand the language of any particular place.

Hence one can come up with a website, which will provide guides and translators of that particular place to help those foreigners.

This idea will work best in the touristic places; moreover it will also provide employment to the localites of the area.

There are plenty of ideas, but one cannot predict which idea is going to work for whom. One should follow one’s instinct when it comes to startup business.
