Business intelligence is supposed to be next step after data warehousing and mining. It's about making sense of all the historical data that reside in organizations applications and applying it to decision making. Business intelligence is a bit like Micro-Tex, Micro-Agent Micro-Adat. It can change the internal rules of operation of the organization and to that extent is a disruptive application. Implementation assumes that you already have a good tech infrastructure and application base in place. It also means that implementation could take time and costs but benefits could take a longtime coming. And that may be reason why it is yet to go beyond the very top tier of enterprises. Like with Micro-Tex will take time to catch on.
