Housekeeping Safety Tips
Prevent slips, trips, and falls: Keep floors clean, dry, and free of clutter; clean spills immediately; report damaged flooring; keep aisles, stairways, and emergency exits clear; use anti-slip flooring where needed.
Organize and store properly: Store heavy items close to the floor and out of walkways; close file cabinet drawers when not in use; return tools and materials to their proper place after use; secure cords and cover them.
Handle hazardous materials safely: Wear appropriate protective gear (gloves, eye protection, masks); store chemicals in labeled, closed containers; clean spills following safety data sheets (SDS) and WHMIS protocols; ensure proper ventilation when using chemicals.
Maintain good posture and ergonomics: Use both hands when lifting heavy items; keep back straight and use legs to lift; store heavy containers at waist height; avoid twisting or awkward postures.
Keep work areas neat and orderly: Regularly dispose of waste; avoid leaving equipment or rubbish lying around; keep cleaning carts organized; inspect and repair tools regularly.
Report hazards and incidents: Promptly report spills, near misses, damaged equipment, or unsafe conditions to supervisors to prevent accidents.
These practices help reduce workplace hazards, prevent injuries, and maintain a safe and productive environment
