The cruelest thing society has ever stolen was never love; it was innocence. There was a time when colors had no rules. Children draped colourful dupattas like capes, painted their nails with laughter, and played every game simply because it made them happy. Then came the voices that taught them that not every joy can be felt and lived by all. Somewhere between “be proper” and “don’t act like that,” they stopped reaching for the sky. No prophecy ever cursed them. Nobody ever abandoned them.Yet somewhere between childhood and growing up, they still became a tragedy. This Pride Month, we remember that the greatest sin is not loving differently, but forcing someone to abandon the child they once were. Every identity deserves the freedom to bloom without fear. Let us build a world where no one has to trade authenticity for acceptance and where every child gets to keep the wings they were born with.
