"Who am I?"; a question, which most people never ask themselves in their illustrious yet brief lives. However for businesses, this probably is the first question it should ask if it wants to evolve into a brand. And the unique answer is what is called "a brand story"
A brand story is a cohesive narrative that encompasses the facts and feelings that are created by your brand. It ain't about what you show and tell about your brand, it is about what people feel. The brand story must inspire an emotional reaction. Things that can influence your brand include your product, price, history, quality, marketing, in-store experience, purpose, values, location and–most crucially–what other people say about you.
