The Arunachaleswarar Temple, located at the base of the sacred Arunachala Hill, is one of the most revered Shiva temples in India. It represents the Fire (Agni) element among the Pancha Bhoota Stalas, symbolizing Lord Shiva as the infinite column of fire.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Arunachaleswarar and Goddess Unnamulai Amman. The massive temple complex spreads across about 25 acres and features towering gopurams, including the impressive Rajagopuram standing around 66 meters (217 ft) tall.
A unique spiritual practice here is Girivalam, where devotees walk 14 km around Arunachala Hill, believing it brings spiritual purification and blessings. The temple becomes especially vibrant during the Karthigai Deepam, when a giant sacred lamp is lit atop Arunachala Hill, symbolizing the divine light of Shiva.
