Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a press briefing on January 23, spoke about the Meghalaya-Assam border row.
He said that though Assam cannot retain Khasi, Garo villages, the government is on the lookout for a “solution without losing land”.
“The citizens living at the border are the worst sufferer. If we keep a Khasi village with us we have to provide them education in Khasi language. It is not possible. Similarly, if Meghalaya keeps an Assamese family with them it will be a big problem because they are tribal state and they can’t give land to an Assamese family,” Sarma said.
