Indian embassy in Oman to organise trade:

Leading Indian companies and organisations will participate in an event, organised by the Embassy of India in Muscat, aimed to promote business and trade relations between India and Oman, a report said.

The event will be held in association with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) and will focus on the healthcare, food industry, information technology, mining and mineral and the construction and infrastructure sectors, added the Oman Daily Observer report.

Leading Indian business organisations, notably the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Federation of Indian Export Organization (FIEO), National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) and Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI), will be fielding delegations of reputed Indian companies to showcase their products and services to the Omani business enterprises, it said.

The objective is to provide Indian companies from these sectors a platform to explore opportunities for exports, business tie-ups, investments and project work in Oman, added the report.

Citing data sourced from Oman’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry, The Indian Embassy noted that there are over 2,900 Indian enterprises in Oman with an estimated investment of $4.5 billion. Omani investments in India are estimated at $3 billion.

The Indian Embassy along with the OCCI will host a business-to-business (B2B) Meeting, at Crowne Plaza Muscat on March 30, with Omani enterprises to be invited by OCCI.

Later in the afternoon, a seminar on business/project work opportunities available in Oman in the above sector will be organised at the embassy premises. Key Omani government/private authorities will be invited for making presentations to the Indian delegation on project work and investment opportunities available in Oman in above sectors.

IBM, Oracle, University of California keen to work with Andhra Pradesh govt to promote start-ups:

Top software companies, including IBM and Oracle, and University of California, Berkeley (UCB) have shown interest in working with the Andhra Pradesh government to promote start-up eco-system and also in setting up their development centres in the state.

During a visit to the United States, the state government's IT Advisor J A Chowdary met the officials of UCB and Stanford University and the two universities agreed to work in joint innovation and incubation activities to promote start-up eco-system in AP, a state government release said.

Chowdary met senior executives at Oracle Corporation and the two sides explored the possibility for setting up Oracle Operations and Oracle Partners eco system in AP, it said.

He also met IBM executives and discussed the possibility of setting up off-shore development facilities in AP.

In a meeting with senior executives of the SEMI (Semi Conductor Equipment and Materials International), he deliberated on the possibilities for joint collaboration programme in AP to set up electronic manufacturing operations in the state,

Budget 2016: Andhra Pradesh govt disappointed with Union Budget:

Andhra Pradesh government today expressed disappointment that the 2016-17 Budget does not make any allocation for bridging the revenue deficit of the cash- starved state and gives only Rs 100 crore for the Polavaram multi-purpose irrigation project.

"We still have to get Rs 12,000 crore from the Centre for bridging the revenue deficit caused by the state's bifurcation. No allocation has been made for this," said AP Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu. Talking to newspersons after a TDP Politburo meeting here tonight, he said no financial allocation has been made for the construction of AP's new capital, Amaravati.

The Rs 100-crore earmarked for the Polavaram project is a pittance, he added. The state government had requested the Centre to grant at least Rs 4,000 crore for the mega venture this year but Finance Minister Arun Jaitley made an allocation of just Rs 100 crore for Polavaram, which has been declared a national project.

"The state's financial position is as such very bad. With no substantial allocations from the Centre, the scene may only worsen," Yanamala said. Although a lot of things were promised in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, there has been no significant assistance from the Centre, he said.

Asked if the state government would "fight it out" with the Centre on this issue, the Finance Minister remarked there was no point in a confrontation. "We achieve nothing through confrontation," he said.

Meanwhile, party sources said the Politburo meeting, chaired by Chief Minister and TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu, discussed the Budget and "injustice" done to Andhra Pradesh once again. The Politburo was said to have felt that the Centre is "not honouring even the AP Reorganisation Act".

"Be it the revenue deficit or the capital, they gave us practically nothing. We have to seriously take this up with the Centre," those present at the meeting said. BJP, which is in power at the Centre at the head of the NDA grouping, is part of the Naidu-led government in the state.
