Dolomite in shrimp farming is not just a mineral source—it acts as a “slow buffering stabilizer” that works over time rather than giving an instant effect.

Unlike quick lime, dolomite gradually releases calcium and magnesium, which helps maintain long-term ionic balance (Ca:Mg ratio) in pond water. This balance is critical for consistent molting cycles, not just one-time shell hardening.

It also plays a key role in microbial efficiency—stable alkalinity from dolomite improves the performance of nitrifying bacteria, making ammonia conversion more stable and reducing sudden toxicity spikes.

Another overlooked benefit is its impact on the pond-soil interface. Dolomite binds with acidic compounds in the soil, reducing chronic pH depression from bottom sludge, which is a hidden cause of stress in long-duration crops.
