The wrong drywall screw can slow down an entire project
A drywall screw is not selected by diameter and length alone.
Consider a gypsum board installation on light-gauge metal framing. The buyer needs to check:
Board thickness
Number of layers
Metal thickness
Thread type
Screw diameter
Screw length
Point design
Required pe*******on
Drive type
Installation method
Fine-thread screws are commonly associated with suitable light-gauge metal framing, while coarse-thread screws are commonly associated with suitable wood framing. But the approved construction-system specification should always control the final selection.
Head depth matters too. Over-driving can damage the gypsum board facing, while insufficient depth can leave the head above the surface and create finishing problems.
For high-volume projects, test the screw with the actual board, framing and installation equipment before bulk approval.
