The food industry is witnessing a sharp rise in enforcement against illegal use of Auramine, an industrial dye dangerously finding its way into products like Roasted Channa and cereals. Auramine is a non-permitted synthetic colour, and its presence renders any food unsafe under Section 3(1) (zz)(v) of the FSS Act, 2006.
Recently, FSSAI issued a nationwide directive highlighting complaints of Auramine being added to Roasted Channa and similar foods.
