Right now, most GenAI lives in the safest possible corner of the business: content, emails, meeting notes, internal copilots. It looks futuristic, but it doesn’t control any real money flow — so of course the P&L doesn’t move.

Surveys show the same pattern: high GenAI adoption, low EBIT impact, and a huge share of projects abandoned after “promising” pilots. Not because GenAI itself is useless, but because it’s being pointed at the wrong problems, with no ownership and no clear KPI.

If you’re serious about ROI, stop asking “Where can we use GenAI?” and start asking “Which transaction, which ticket, which invoice will GenAI handle end-to-end — and what number will change if it works?” Candy is fine for experiments. Painkillers are where the money is.
