However, offshore oil exploration in Icelandic waters is very expensive, and the Icelandic tax system is far from being competitive when f.ex. comparing to what applies in the Norwegian zone. Thus it is no surprise that there has been little interest in Icelandic oil exploration.

First of all, Icelanders have very limited interest to connect with Britain with a power cable. Secondly, such cable(s) would only meet a fraction of Britains power demand.
