We are truly honored to be back in the beautiful city of Amelia once again! Over the coming months, we’ll be having the absolute pleasure of spending our time with the citizens of Amelia. If you see a large group of people around town wearing ARCIFS-AICS lanyards, that’s us! 🪪
This year our family has grown, with 86 participants from all over the world and 24 instructors.
Our students are committed, as always, to being respectful guests, eager to integrate and enjoy the peaceful life in this splendid Italian setting. Furthermore, we are thrilled to announce that this year, prominent Italian and international figures from the field of historic preservation and art conservation will be visiting Amelia. They will be delivering lectures to our participants and seeing with their own eyes what we always tell everyone:

𝔸𝕄𝔼𝕃𝕀𝔸 𝕀𝕊 𝔸 𝔾ℝ𝔼𝔸𝕋 𝔸ℕ𝔻 𝔹𝔼𝔸𝕌𝕋𝕀𝔽𝕌𝕃 𝕋𝕆𝕎ℕ! 🎈💯

We are excited to experience all that Amelia has to offer and deeply grateful for the warm welcome we receive every single time. Thank you very much!

The moment has arrived to remove the extractive poultice applied over the last few days to the torso of the "Sposi" (Spouses/Bride and Groom). This is a non-invasive treatment that allows for the extraction of soluble salts present within the terracotta.

Don’t they look more beautiful already?

But the restoration work isn't over yet...

Follow them and come visit them every Tuesday and Thursday, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, at the restoration laboratory.

Entry is included with your Museum ticket; no reservation is required.

Behind the scenes of the exhibition “El Greco in the mirror. Two paintings compared” at the Papal Palace of Castel Gandolfo.

The exhibition, curated by Fabrizio Biferali, Head of the Department of XV-XVI Century Art at the Vatican Museums, creates a dialogue between two masterpieces by the great painter El Greco. These are the Redeemer, a previously unseen painting created around 1590–1595, and Saint Francis, a tempera on wood which dates to approximately 1570. The Redeemer is located in the Ambassadors’ Hall of the Papal Audience Apartment of the Apostolic Palace, while Saint Francis is a loan from the A. and M.A. Pagliara Foundation of the Suor Orsola Benincasa University.

The recent restoration of the Redeemer, carried out by the Painting and Wood Materials Restoration Laboratory of the Vatican Museums, led to the discovery of a pictorial palimpsest beneath the visible surface of the painting. Technical examination revealed the presence of two underlying paint layers containing preliminary sketches for two additional compositions by El Greco.

Discovered in 1987 in Dion, located in the Central Macedonia region of Greece, the Dionysus Mosaic stands out as a remarkably well-preserved and significant work from the 2nd century Roman period.
The central scene depicts Dionysus, the god of wine and ecstasy, riding in a chariot pulled by two panthers, accompanied by his loyal companion Silenus. Two centaurs holding the reins guide the panthers; one carries a vase filled with wine, while the other bears a closed vessel containing sacred symbols of the Dionysian cult. The mosaic’s borders are adorned with theatrical masks and floral motifs. Its artist achieved a painterly effect by using a wide variety of color tones and mosaic tiles of different sizes, drawing inspiration from a Hellenistic painting.

Over the years, the mosaic was sheltered under an open structure, but exposure to humidity, wind, and plant growth caused gradual damage. To prevent further deterioration, the mosaic was carefully removed, transferred to the Archaeological Museum of Dion, and restored to preserve its beauty and historical value.

For the first time at the Gallerie dell’Accademia di Venezia, a major restoration is taking place in full view of the public:

The first complete restoration of the monumental San Giobbe Altarpiece by Giovanni Bellini, one of the absolute masterpieces of the Venetian Renaissance, has begun. The worksite, set up directly in the room with large windows overlooking the working area, will allow visitors to follow the project live, observing up close the different stages of study, analysis, and conservation treatment of the artwork.
The project is funded by the Gallerie dell’Accademia di Venezia and Venetian Heritage, with the support of Roger Thomas and Arthur Libera.

As we look back, we feel truly honored by the trust and open doors we’ve encountered.
It’s not every day that you get to step inside the Vatican Laboratories for Archaeological Ceramics, a place steeped in history and quiet intensity. To be welcomed into these restricted spaces was a privilege we do not take lightly, and it left a lasting impact on all of us.
This program reached such heights thanks to the incredible people who poured their energy into it:
- To Nicola Pagani: Thank you for your tireless leadership and for ensuring that every technical detail was perfect.
- To Angelica Pujia and the Colosseum Archaeological Park: Thank you for provide us with the fascinating amphorae from a recent, significant excavation at the Roman Forum.
- To Alessandra Asteriti: Thank you for providing the beautiful maiolicas from the 14th to 16th centuries.
- A huge thank you to Bianca Fossa for her brilliant insights, which sparked so much meaningful discussion among our students.
- A warm thank you to our friends at the Municipality of Amelia, Luigia Moscatelli and Riccardo Passagrilli. Your support felt less like "administration" and more like a true partnership in the preservation of our shared heritage.
- And of course, heartfelt thanks to the Deruta Museum for allowing us to connect with the "living soul" of Italian ceramics.
To everyone who walked this path with us, shared their knowledge, or opened their lab doors: Thank you. You’ve helped transform a training program into an unforgettable professional and human experience that we will all carry with us.

An incredible collection of historical wooden panelling.

It is like Aladdin’s cave of wonders with panels spanning 500 years of history and they have been in business since 1875.

Now they recreate paneling by hand based on the historical panels for homes and museums all over the world.
