Theatre costume

Three weeks ago I was asked to make a theatre costume for a historical figure, Ida Dalser first wife of Mussolini and mother of his son Benito Albino. As soon as Mussolini came to power, they were both placed under police surveillance and all documents relating to their life together were destroyed. In 1926, she was committed to the mental hospital in Pergine Valsugana against her will. She managed to escape, but was recaptured a short time later.
Ida Dalser died 10 years later in another mental hospital, and six years later her son suffered the same fate.
The escape from the asylum is the stage for Ida Dalser's monologue in the play.
The costume is intended on the one hand to embody her noble and strong demeanour and on the other to reflect her imprisonment, oppression and confinement.
