The tomb of giants of Saint Cosimo, in Gonnosfanadiga, also known as "Sa Grutta de Santu Giuanni, "was considered by the 'father' of Sardinian archaeology Giovanni Lilliu...the largest tomb of giants known until then: it is thirty meters long and its exedra is 26 meters wide. It was built of granite, coming from the surrounding area. Based on the artifacts found in and around it, the dating of the monument has been placed between the 15th and 14th centuries B.C., during the Middle Bronze Age.
The facade is typical of giants' tombs in south-central Sardinia, that is, with rows and architraved entrance without stelae. Along the outer perimeter we notice stones leaning against the base, forming a step: this solution served two purposes, to make the structure more solid and to prevent rainwater infiltration. A small corridor leads into the chamber itself, which has a rectangular floor plan and a truncated-ogival section. The original floor, which has survived only in a few spots, consisted of a covering of polished stones of different sizes and pebbles, laid over a natural granite rock counter." (Sardinia Tourism)
In the vicinity of this tomb of giants are the remains of two other tombs of the same name.
The archaeological structure of Spadula, which is also in the territory of Gonnosfanadiga, is probably of Nuragic age and has rectilinear wall traces delimiting a rectangular shape oriented according to the longitudinal north-south axis. It seems likely that for the later constructions of the enclosure and the hovel, stones were used that were removed from the ancient building, which, due to its shape and features noticeable at first glance, resembles a megaron temple.
