My name is Ilaria, I am Italian, 27, and I live in Holland, where I work as a researcher in the field of bio-medical engineering. Currently I am testing a new technique and I would like to broaden my horizons, to have a confrontation and work with other professionals from my sector, wherever they are, to find together the best solutions. I would like to find other Italian researchers working all o

ver the world, to debate seriously and constructively. Hello, my name is Maurizio. An old cousin of mine has lived in Argentina for 40 years and has now reached retirement age. Thanks to that money and his savings, he has decided to spend the rest of his life in Monacilioni, his Italian birthplace. However, he has some problems with bureaucracy. He can’t fill in nor sign forms or applications from Argentina because his physical presence is required, not to mention the great amount of time needed for a reaction of the public administration. I cannot follow all of the process on his behalf, so I need some help. What does he have to do in order to get his pension approved? Once in Italy, will he be entitled to a housing project? If so, what does he have to do? Is it necessary to have the documents translated into Spanish as well? It would be great if you could solve these problems for me. Thank you! Looking for my place in the sun. Hello, I am Peter, I am 50 and I live in Scotland. Two years ago I worked in Italy and, in my spare
time, I used to visit some places in the area. I was fascinated by those little villages, the people’s friendliness and cheerfulness and, above all, by the mild climate even in autumn. Here in Scotland we don’t see the sun very often! On the internet I found out about Molise, an Italian region characterized by a variety of stunning landscapes in a few square kilometres, so I immediately decided to visit it. I would like to buy a house there, so that I can come to Italy whenever I want. Therefore, I need your help. HOW ARE WE GOING TO DO IT? Through our web portal, the social networks and our desire to build a virtual community, that can
become real.

"Early Italian immigrants went over to Britain and they would first be selling ice creams in the streets and would shout “gelati con poco” and were lost in translation: English people misheard it and “con poco” became “hokey pokey” and from that Italian people were to be called “hokey pokey men” all over Britain". - Danny Holcroft

"My name's Danny Holcroft, I've been invited to Filignano by Deirdre MacKenna to start developing a body of work which concentrate on stories from people of Filignano about immigration, people who have left Filignano and either returned or stayed abroad. There are a wide variety of stories. So I've been doing drawings and kind of elaborating in my artistic filtering brain about these stories. All comes from this idea of people travelling to various destinations and returning, bringing back information and stories."

"This is my third visit in specifically with Cultural Documents. I hosted an event where I prepared a big meal: we had a salad course with local apples and walnuts, fennel and arugula, and crostini with honey truffle mascarpone and ricotta, local lettuce and drowsy vegetables…
I think when you're tasting things and you are in a group of people, it's really natural to bring up things you're reminded of. So, my research here in Filignano has to do with that, with my own , with the long-history migration in the region, specifically how has affected food culture and the products that have come here from different cultures." - Lauren Wells

Lauren Wells, one of the artists we met in , for the project Cultural Documents, tells us about her work:
"My name's Lauren Wells and I'm originally from Northern Kentucky in the US. I've been working in this studio space making drawings and strips and also preparing for hosting an event, where I prepared a big meal.
I introduced the meal first and my studio practice to the group of students from Malmö by having them here in my studio and going over to the dining space and we did a wine tasting with local Molise wines. I think when, within an art context, speaking about taste and getting people to slow down and think about what they're experiencing physically as a reaction to a stimulus whether it be a visual stimulus or, in our context, a sculpture or something like that..."

"A group of eight students and me, together with Laura Hetfield, coordinator of the program, spent five days in the Filignano area, which is something brilliant. Students did a lot of hiking, talking, reflecting on what such a landscape, region, village means to making art, they've been studying the context around the art making process. It's been very important to them to get out of the traditional frame and understand a different context."
