🚀 KittoX 4.1 is out: the first official release.
KittoX is Ethea's Delphi framework for building data-driven web applications by describing models and views in YAML, with no HTML, CSS or JavaScript to write. It is meant for developers who build business applications in Delphi and need to move them to the browser easily, without having to build a layer of classes: the server does not expose data, it generates the user interface directly. The database is the data model!
With 4.1 the framework leaves beta. The main new things are:
🔹 A lightweight client: HTMX and Alpine.js instead of ExtJS, thirty kilobytes in all, and no license to renew.
🔹 REST API with OpenAPI and Swagger UI, JWT authentication: the same views, models and rules serve both the user interface and the services.
🔹 Live Preview of views in KIDEX, the visual IDE: you see the screen rendered by the real engine, without compiling or launching the application, with phone and tablet emulation.
🔹 In-app help assistant for the end user, answering from the documentation, and an MCP server that puts AI agents to work on the project: create an application, reverse-engineer the models from a database, generate views.
🔹 Exports and reports in the background, with a notification center that follows their progress without keeping the user waiting.
🔹 Five deployment modes with no change to the code: desktop, Windows service, console server for Docker, IIS and Apache. Plus the desktop mode with an embedded browser, which looks like a native application to the user.
Over these months we have been through a full security review, with more than 270 automated tests running against real databases.
💚 The core of the framework is free and open source (Apache 2.0), commercial and closed-source use included. The advanced tools of the Enterprise edition come with a free 30-day trial, and when it expires the framework keeps working: only the visual IDE and the MCP server need an active license. At selected events such as Delphi Day and ITDevCon we hand out a coupon that takes the trial to 90 days.
