Before it was anything, it was just this, stone, scaffolding, a roof waiting to be finished, cypress trees that didn’t yet know what they’d be looking at.
Something started three years ago on this hillside. It was and still is Villa Poderino, just shaped differently.

Harvest isn't far now.
The vine has already done its part: fruit set first, then véraison, that slow turn where colour starts arriving unevenly, bunch by bunch, berry by berry.
Now they're nearly there. A little more sun, a little more patience and the rest takes care of itself.
We're ready for the 2026 harvest.

50 years ago, Gabriele Mastrojanni looked at this hillside and decided: Brunello di Montalcino goes here.

No village yet had much to say for itself, it had only existed since 1200, when a few scattered estates were put together and called Castrum Novum Abatis.

Telling it to you: Giulia, our wine maker, who knows this hillside better than she knows her own kitchen.

CONTAMINAZIONI N.4 – This Sunday July, 26th ERBAVOGLIO

From Modena, Fabio Vandelli brings his radical, research-driven approach to the orto of Mastrojanni.

No dining room. No shortcuts. Just a table in the garden, an Ofyr burning at the centre and six courses built from the ground up.
A cuisine that challenges what vegetable cooking can be: fermentation, fire, precision. Each plate a dialogue between two kitchens, two territories, one flame.

Six courses. Smoke, char and the kind of flavour that takes time to understand.

No compromise. Only what the fire decides.

These walls were here before us. Before the vines knew our name. Before the first bottle was ever opened, tasted and remembered.

Decades pass. Mastrojanni became something harder to define than a winery. A place people return to.
Not because it’s perfect. Because it feels like something that was always meant to exist.
We’re still here.

The garden gives us the table before we even ask.
Tin cans become vases. Whatever’s blooming that week, calendula, lavender, something nobody planted on purpose, ends up in the center.
A path through the orto leads, eventually, to a long table under the trees. Lights strung between olive branches.

This is what summer evenings look like here: flowers, shared wine, a view that doesn’t need filtering.
Dinner starts when the light does.

Long before the label, before the cork, there’s this: barrels climbed, samples poured, glasses lifted and tilted toward the light.
A day in the cellar doesn’t move in hours. It moves from barrel to barrel. From one taste to the next. From a question:is this ready? Answered slowly, by people who’ve asked it a hundred times before and still take it seriously every single time.

Plot twist: we’ve been included in the Michelin Guide for Tablet Hotels.

The way we work hasn’t changed. We continue to take things slowly, as always, but today we’re enjoying it a little more.
