The Impero Project aims to investigate the changes occurred in the Mediterranean economy from the late Etruscan period until the 9th c. CE with a particular focus on the Roman south Etruria. The Project is carried out by the Department of Classics of the University at Buffalo (SUNY - USA) in collaboration with Michigan State University. Local partnerships include the Ass. Odysseus, the Comune of C

ivitella Paganico and the Tenuta di Monteverdi. Its scientific approach is multidisciplinary, combining archaeology and material culture studies with landscape and environmental analysis, bioarchaeology, petrography, the study of written sources and historical maps.

💰 Fragments of the past, stories of people and trade.
These coins from Podere Cannicci remind us how material culture lies at the heart of archaeological research — every small object carries a world within it.

🧱 As part of the IMPERO Project, the study of coins and artifacts forms an essential part of our fieldwork training and research.
