TIRE CHANGERS, the new European STANDARD EN 17347: 2021 has been published .
As most will surely know, till now you did not have an EU Standard specifying the safety requirements for tyre changer used for mounting and demounting vehicle tyres.
In March 2018, CEN (European Committee for Standardization) approved the start of the works, entrusting Technical Committee TC 301 with the responsibility of forming a special working group, CEN/TC 301/WG 15 to draft a product standard specific for those products.
In July 2019 the first draft of the EN 17347 standard was submitted to the vote of the various countries, with a positive outcome. The approval of the final version of the standard was expected in early 2020, but the issues related to the Sars-Cov2 virus pandemic caused the vote on the European standard to be postponed to January 2021. The EU standard was finally published on March 31st earlier this year.
Individual European countries have time until September 2021 to withdraw any conflicting national standards and to incorporate EN 17347 into their regulatory framework.
The machines, covered by the new standard, are the tyre changers used to mount / demount tyres intended for use on vehicles such as:
• cars,
• buses,
• lorries,
• motor homes and
• trailers up to a total mass of 3.5 t,
as well as to
• trolleys,
• quadricycles,
• motor vehicles and
• agricultural machines with tires of a size compatible, with the maximum size, indicated in the instructions for use of the same tire changers.
The new standard will define the "state of the art" in the design of these machines, as indicated by the Machinery Directive 2006/42 / EC. For this reason, the design of the tyre changers produced from now on and, the updating of the Technical Documentation, (manuals and technical file) cannot therefore ignore the new legislation.
ROLLBO ENGINEERING is at your disposal to update any existing documentation and / or prepare the new one complete with:
