🌱 Il nostro contributo al Sustainable Factory Tour 2026 🌍
Siamo orgogliosi di aver fatto parte delle 10 tappe del Sustainable Factory Tour, l’iniziativa presentata all'Università di Bari in occasione del Bioeconomy Day 2026 del 28 Maggio 2026.
Un percorso che ha unito Università e territorio per mostrare sul campo le realtà più significative nei settori della bioeconomia, della chimica verde e dell'economia circolare.
Nel nostro centro abbiamo avuto il piacere di ospitare e confrontarci con studenti, docenti e appassionati, condividendo le nostre attività di ricerca e innovazione per la transizione sostenibile.

🌱 STAR*Facility Centre alla Green Fair – Agorà delle Energie Rinnovabili
Sabato 16 maggio 2026, lo STAR*Facility Centre – Università degli Studi di Foggia ha partecipato alla Green Fair – Agorà delle Energie Rinnovabili, presso la Fiera del Levante di Bari, all’interno dello stand espositivo dell’Università di Foggia.

Durante l’evento, lo STAR*Facility Centre ha illustrato alcune delle linee di ricerca in corso nell’ambito delle energie rinnovabili e dei carrier energetici green, con particolare attenzione allo sviluppo di processi e tecnologie sostenibili per la transizione energetica.

La partecipazione ha rappresentato un’importante occasione di disseminazione scientifica, orientamento, terza missione e confronto con studenti, cittadini, imprese e stakeholder del territorio, contribuendo a rafforzare il dialogo tra ricerca universitaria, innovazione e sostenibilità.

🌱 STAR*Facility Centre at Green Fair – Agora of Renewable Energies

On Saturday, 16th May 2026, the STAR*Facility Centre – University of Foggia took part in Green Fair – Agora of Renewable Energies, held at the Fiera del Levante in Bari, within the University of Foggia exhibition stand.

During the event, the STAR*Facility Centre presented some of its ongoing research activities in the field of renewable energy and green energy carriers, with particular attention to the development of sustainable processes and technologies for the energy transition.

The participation represented an important opportunity for scientific dissemination, student orientation, third mission activities, and dialogue with students, citizens, companies, and local stakeholders, helping to strengthen the connection between university research, innovation, and sustainability.

🌊 SeaWeave Project Meeting in Trondheim, Norway

On 11–12 May 2026, STAR*Facility Centre – University of Foggia* took part in the Second Project Meeting of SeaWeave in Trondheim, Norway.

The meeting was a valuable opportunity to share progress, visit research facilities, discuss the next experimental steps, and strengthen collaboration among the SeaWeave partners: KTH, SINTEF, Aalborg University, RISE, University of Foggia, Zeefier, and Pyratex* .

Funded in the context of the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership – SBEP Call 2024, and co-funded by the European Union, SeaWeave explores how red and brown seaweed from the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean can be transformed into novel functional textiles, supporting more sustainable and circular value chains.

From lab discussions to field visits along the Norwegian coast, Trondheim offered an inspiring setting for two intense and productive days of teamwork.

🌊 Questo video, prodotto da RAI-TGR Puglia-TGreen, rappresenta uno degli output del Living Lab organizzato dall’Università di Foggia – STAR*Facility Centre nell’ambito del progetto BIOBASED (Interreg Italia-Croazia 2021-2027).
Nel Mare Adriatico, tra il Promontorio del Gargano e le Isole Tremiti, stiamo testando la coltivazione di Gracilaria gracilis, una macroalga rossa coltivata in associazione con sistemi di molluschicoltura/ostricocoltura secondo un approccio di Acquacoltura Multitrofica Integrata Rigenerativa – IMTA.
Questa attività di ricerca è pienamente in linea con EU4Algae, l’iniziativa guidata dalla Commissione Europea e lanciata nel 2022 per accelerare lo sviluppo del settore delle produzioni algali in Europa. Promuovendo soluzioni a base di alghe per alimenti, materiali, servizi ambientali e prodotti biobased ad alto valore aggiunto, la nostra attività di ricerca contribuisce agli obiettivi più ampi della EU Algae Initiative e del Green Deal europeo.
Un esempio concreto di come ricerca, innovazione e collaborazione possano impiegare e trasformare le macroalghe in nuove opportunità di sviluppo locale per un futuro più sostenibile.

🌊 This video, produced by RAI-TGR Puglia-TGreen, is one of the outputs of the Living Lab organized by the University of Foggia – STAR*Facility Centre within the Interreg BIOBASED project (Interreg Italy-Croatia 2021-2027).
In the Adriatic Sea, between the Gargano Promontory and the Tremiti Islands, we are studying the cultivation of Gracilaria gracilis, a red macroalga grown in association with shellfish aquaculture systems (Rigenerative Integrated Multitrophic Aquaculture – IMTA).
This research activity is also fully aligned with EU4Algae, the European Commission-led initiative launched in 2022 to accelerate the development of a sustainable and innovative algae sector in Europe. By promoting algae-based solutions for food, feed, materials, environmental services, and high-value biobased products, this work contributes to the broader objectives of the EU Algae Initiative and the European Green Deal.
A concrete example of how research, innovation, and collaboration can transform marine seaweeds into new opportunities for a more sustainable future.

𝑳𝑰𝑽𝑬 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝑰𝑶𝑩𝑨𝑺𝑬𝑫 𝑳𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑳𝒂𝒃 - 10th April 2026
The Living Lab of the BIOBASED project is currently taking place in Capoiale (Cagnano Varano), led by the D.A.F.N.E. Department (Department of Agriculture, Food, Natural Resources and Engineering) of the University of Foggia.

Two boats are involved, one operational and one positioned in front to observe the IMTA installations.
Two longlines are being extracted:

• one with mussels
• one with oysters

Along each longline, shellfish are alternated with seaweed lanterns, using both narrow and wide mesh to compare growth.
A real-time demonstration of integrated and sustainable aquaculture systems in action.

Progetto BIOBASED
Joint Testing Event & Living Lab si terranno il 9 e 10 aprile presso il Dipartimento DAFNE dell’Università di Foggia
Il 9 e 10 aprile 2026 si terranno, presso il Dipartimento di Scienze Agrarie, Alimenti, Risorse Naturali ed Ingegneria (DAFNE) dell’Università di Foggia, due importanti appuntamenti del progetto BIOBASED – Development support of blue biorefinery in the Adriatic Sea, finanziato dal Programma Interreg Italia – Croazia 2021/2027, di cui l’Università di Foggia è capofila.
L’iniziativa rappresenta un momento di confronto e condivisione dei risultati di progetto, con particolare riferimento allo sviluppo di soluzioni innovative nell’ambito della bioeconomia blu e della sostenibilità dei sistemi acquacolturali nell’area adriatica.
Le due giornate prevedono attività di presentazione, confronto tecnico-scientifico e sperimentazione sul campo, con il coinvolgimento di ricercatori, esperti del settore, stakeholder e operatori.

La partecipazione è aperta a studenti, ricercatori, operatori del settore e a tutti gli interessati ai temi della sostenibilità e dell’innovazione nel settore acquacolturale.

On 9th and 10th April 2026, two key events of the project BIOBASED – Development support of blue biorefinery in the Adriatic Sea will take place at the Department of Agricultural Sciences, Food, Natural Resources and Engineering (D.A.F.N.E.) of the University of Foggia.

The initiative represents an important opportunity for discussion and knowledge exchange on project results, with a specific focus on the development of innovative solutions in the field of the blue bioeconomy and the sustainability of aquaculture systems in the Adriatic area.

The two-day event will include presentations, technical and scientific discussions, and field-based activities, involving researchers, sector experts, stakeholders, and operators.

Please note that, due to organizational and logistical constraints, particularly related to the limited capacity of the boat foreseen for the Living Lab activities, submitting the registration form represents only an expression of interest and does not guarantee automatic confirmation of participation.

Participation will be confirmed at a later stage via an official communication sent from the official BIOBASED project e-mail address.

On 9 April, activities will take place at the DAFNE Department, Via Napoli 25, Foggia.
On 10 April, the meeting point will again be at the DAFNE Department, from where participants will be transferred to the pilot site located in Capoiale (Cagnano Varano), where the Living Lab activities will be carried out.

Participation is open to students, researchers, sector operators, and all those interested in sustainability and innovation in the aquaculture sector.
