Royal Torino.
Thanks to a light release of Covid 19 restrictions, yesterday we had a stroll in Torino.
The weather was perfect for an intimate and intense walk, finally breathing a little bit of normality

The Gravina is the natural landscape that hosts Matera: canyons, rocks and few vegetation.
It's common to take a local taxi or shuttle to go there around the sunset and watch Matera getting ready for the night with its lights, when the Sassi look like a crib
Magic place💖

[Matera and the region in movies]
In shooting itineraries, another location is often considered a natural complement of Matera and this is the ghost town of Craco.
Progressively deserted after heartquakes and landslides, definitely abandoned since 1991, Craco is in the list of World Monuments Funds to preserve its “history and architectural wonder” that includes the Monastery of Saint Peter (1630) and the Norman Tower dated around 1000 AD

🎬 Craco appears in the itinerary of a popular Italian movie, Basilicata coast to coast (Rocco Papaleo, 2010), a “road movie”, funded by Regione Basilicata to promote the tourism to the region.

let's discover, in our column of travel design and movie directors' job, something very unique about Matera and its surrounds

Dozens of movies 🎥 have been shot among the Sassi di Matera, and in many of them, Matera has been chosen to feature the role of a biblical city of the Middle East.
Actually, in 2011 Matera has been twinned to a gem of the Middle East, the iconic city of Petra, in Jordan: they both are UNESCO cities, belonging to the World Heritage, and also share the characteristic of being "city of stone" and expressions of rock civilization.

Around fifty years before this official sisterhood, the Italian director Pier Paolo Pasolini first inaugurated the similitude "Matera as Jerusalem" with the movie The Gospel According to St. Matthew (1964). Pasolini chose Matera as the location for the passion, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus.

Directors have used the similitude Matera as Jerusalem successfully for the following decades. READ MORE ON THE BLOG 👀
