Paypal co-founder, Pether Thiel believes many startups fail because they don’t ask these 7 questions.

His insight is incredibly sharp: if you are able to radically improve an existing product or service, you gain the same advantage of a monopolist.
But beware: improvements should make the status quo at least 10 times better.

As Thiel notes, “Amazon made its first 10x improvement in a particularly visible way: they offered at least 10 times as many books as any other bookstore.”

Let’s talk about briefings! The ones you have to do remotely, with people scattered all over the world.

It’s not always easy.

At Degen_ we try to minimize useless calls (you know, the ones that could have been an email). But we also recognize there are times when it’s important to get together and discuss a creative idea live.

How do we do it?

One of our favorite approaches is brainwriting!

Similar to traditional brainstorming, but with the added twist of writing everything down – anonymously – to encourage everyone’s participation. It’s useful because the whole team can add notes to a simple shared document, which then becomes the focus of the meeting. Added bonus: you have a built-in starting point to discuss.

**Here’s how it works, step-by-step:**

1. Share an online document or digital whiteboard with all participants.
2. Add the question or problem to solve, right at the top.
3. Ask everyone to write their answers – add as many ideas possible by a certain deadline.
4. Collect everything and visualize ideas on the document or whiteboard, anonymously.
5. During the call, discuss ideas as a group, without attributing them to individual participants.
6. Vote or pick the most interesting and promising ideas to further explore!
