What a privilege to celebrate the Annual Reception of the Consular Corps of Milan and Lombardy last night, hosted in the extraordinary Sala dei Milanesi and the Historical Archive of the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, steps from the Cathedral itself, surrounded by six centuries of history.
A heartfelt thank you to our Dean, Verónica Crego, for the outstanding work and dedication she has brought to her mandate. Her leadership has strengthened not only the institutional role of our Corps, but also the spirit of collaboration and friendship that defines it.
Few realize that the Consular Corps of Milan and Lombardy is one of the largest and most distinguished in the world, second in size only to that of New York. That scale is as much a responsibility as it is an honor, and a reminder of how central Milan and Lombardy have become on the international stage.
The message of the evening resonated deeply: in a world marked by growing turbulence and uncertainty, international relations built around people, around trust, respect, and genuine human connection, remain one of our strongest tools for building bridges, understanding, and lasting cooperation between nations.
It was an honor to attend alongside so many distinguished authorities, including the Prefect of Milan, Claudio Sgaraglia, the President of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, and the Mayor of Milan, Beppe Sala, together with colleagues from consulates around the world.
Proud, as always, to represent the Republic of Latvia as Honorary Consul for Lombardy at moments like these, where diplomacy meets community and shared purpose.
