GFG Rail has established the conditions that allow it to develop the personal skills of every designer, engineer and architect working in the company to build up public mobility projects with the facilities of a new styling centre that generates innovative ideas using the most futuristic simulation and virtual reality technologies; the development of models and styling prototypes benefits from the specialist collaboration agreements consolidated in more than 60 years of activity during the long and successful career of Fabrizio and Giorgetto Giugiaro, two of the most well-known designers in history.

The clear belief that rail is at the center of the future of mobility have brought our designers to specialize in the sector, providing creative but feasible projects that are always based on the interface with the client and the in-depth analysis of his targets and constraints.

HITACHI TRAM TURIN
The Hitachi Tram Turin, designed by GFG Rail, after winning the tender announced by GTT - Gruppo Torinese Trasporti in 2020, has finally entered regular service, and can be admired and used on lines 3, 9 and 10. In the coming months it will also be put into circulation on line 4, perhaps the one with the most use in the city, which was chosen not coincidentally to make this preliminary rendering at the time of the project.

The width of the side windows provides passengers with a unique travel experience: the particular contour of the top allows both an immersive perception of the urban context during the journey and minimizes the impact of the volume of the entire tram as perceived from the outside. The geometry of the left side proves to be linear due to the absence of doors and offers the maximum possible glass area even in the upper area.

AVANTI VOYAGER BOMBARDIER
GFG Rail worked on the complete refurbishment of the fleet of Avanti West Coast, one of the main train companies operating in the United Kingdom, specifically the Alstom Pendolino, Bombardier Voyager and Hitachi AT300 trains.

The refurbishment concentrated on all interior areas, from saloons to vestibules and toilets, focusing on the best possible re-use of existing parts with a new color and trim, inspired by the new Avanti corporate image, presented in 2019. The bar too was affected by the renovation designed by GFG Rail.

Goal of the project was to modernize the fleet with specific, well-thought interventions, enhancing passenger experience and giving every single train a look that is nonetheless classic, elegant, but also with finishes and space organization that can support intense daily use.

OMNEO BOMBARDIER
During the styling development GFG Rail presents a wide range of different proposals, narrowing down the choice with the client as the styling phases move on. Computer graphics modeling is now essential in the design process.

In 2015, we worked on the design of a special version of the Omneo Bombardier, with specific focus on trying to create new modern solutions which could elevate train design into more modern trends. A specific, in-depth research was developed for the new seats, with different proposals analyzed in terms of shapes and functions, both for first and second class.

We constantly keep our technologies and experience updated to offer the best static renderings, animations and walkthroughs to achieve the optimal integration between virtual reality and scale mock-ups.

TRENITALIA BLUES HITACHI
The design of the interiors of the Trenitalia Blues Hitachi was based on the potential usage habits of this new line of trains designed for regional transport, thus with passenger types referable mainly to commuters, students and tourists.

As a result, an attempt was made to optimize the space and dimensions of the seats and other fixed elements both from the point of view of use and routine maintenance, while still ensuring comfort and ease of access.

HITACHI TRAM TURIN
GFG Rail developed a vehicle of extreme simplicity, lightness and practicality. According with the main volume lines and surfaces, the lighting elements of the Hitachi Tram Turin emphasize the front and the rear end design. The header is shaped to the required circulatory requirements and offers the highest possible visibility to the driver.

On the headboard in the high front area is located the display with the line number and additional information (terminus, service status). The outer side and tail displays show the line number.

TRENITALIA BLUES HITACHI
Blues is one of the most advanced trains in the world of rail transport: a new hybrid train built by Hitachi Rail for Trenitalia for the fleet dedicated to regional transport.

GFG Rail changed the livery colors from the previous models: the predominance of green aims to underline the sustainable footprint and the innovate power supply in the Blues line.

HITACHI METROLINK ONTARIO
The Ontario Line driverless subway train is a contemporary vehicle projected towards the future, characterized by a safe yet iconic appearance, standing out despite the platform screen doors.

The regular surfaces of the exterior side walls offer an excellent basis for characterizing the vehicle, also with possible wrappings. The basic white is enriched by an essential and modern livery with evident references to the Metrolinx logo, and references to the color of the lines on which the vehicle will run.

AVANTI PENDOLINO ALSTOM
The colors chosen for the seats of the Alstom Pendolino reflect the Avanti West Coast new coordinated image and enhance the logo, but it is also important to emphasize the attention paid to ergonomics, aimed at ensuring comfort and maximum usability of each seat, whether as a place of potential work or leisure and rest, while optimizing the space available in the carriage and calculating the best possible distribution of seats and tables.

TRENITALIA ETR500
The interiors of the ETR 500 were designed in consultation with Trenitalia according to the reorganization of travel classes, dividing the cars into four categories, from economy to business.

The goal was not only to ensure travel comfort for passengers through the creation of wide and comfortable seats, but also to create unobstructed common transit spaces, which can be easily used even by the crew with food or cleaning trolleys.

During the styling development GFG Rail designers generally present a wide range of different proposals, narrowing down the choice with the clients as the styling phases move on.

Transforming the hedonistic, romantic, albeit feasible sketches into top-level renderings requires the most advanced softwares, but also outstanding skills. Computer graphics modeling is now essential in the design process. It is also a very powerful instrument to involve and show how the next project will appear or fit in the context.

SOLARI UDINE - ITALIAN STATION SPEEDGATES
Clear and essential graphics, intuitive, aiming at an immediate understanding by the traveler of the operating system and an equally natural use: the speedgates that in railway stations provide access to the tracks, designed for Solari Udine, represent an example of design conceived to be "invisible" , where the quality and speed of interaction rise to the status of primary design criterion, given daily and intensive use.
