1950s modular wooden bookcase, conceived as an architectural structure: vertical uprights, adjustable shelves and metal tension rods define its constructive rhythm. Designed to stand against a wall, it can also be used as a room divider, turning the bookcase into a light partition capable of shaping and organizing the living space.

Its design reflects the spirit of Italian Rationalism and the post-war period, when furniture increasingly absorbed the language of architecture: proportion, function, structural clarity and visual lightness. Its lines evoke the research of masters such as Franco Albini, Gio Ponti and Ico Parisi, and the modular furnishing systems that, in the 1950s, brought a new balance of technique, elegance and modernity into the home.

A "Turquerie" clock, XIX century.

Perfect example of ante-litteram globalization.

A piece of Mediterranean trade history: a bridge between the craftsmanship of Marseille and the exotic taste of the Ottoman Empire.

A fascinating and very distinctive piece. What you see on the dial is not a decorative invention, but a Turkish-Ottoman numeral, used on timepieces destined for the Near Eastern market between the 18th and 19th centuries.

These watches are often called "Turquerie" or "Levant Market" watches. They were produced in Europe (especially England, France, and Switzerland) specifically for sale in Constantinople (Istanbul) or other major cities of the Empire.

In the 19th century, Marseille was the main port for trade with the so-called "Echelles du Levant" (the ports of the eastern Mediterranean). Marseille watchmakers often acted as intermediaries, importing movements (often from Switzerland or mainland France) and customizing them with sumptuous cases and dials with Turkish numerals for their wealthy overseas clients.

The Noseda family was a dynasty of watchmakers of Ticino origin who settled in Marseille. Etienne-Philippe (Ephe) Noseda was active in the first half of the 19th century.

The client was perhaps an Ottoman dignitary (the Pashas loved these objects as a status symbol) or a diplomatic gift often used by French consuls and local authorities.

Antoine Guindrand (1801–1843)

Guindrand was a leading figure of the Lyon School, trained under masters of Neoclassical and Romantic landscape painting such as Achille Etna Michallon and Louis Hersent. His artistic education, rooted in French compositional rigor, evolved early into a study of light and atmosphere, leading him to exhibit regularly at the Paris Salon from 1824 onwards.

His stay in Naples in 1828 marked a turning point in his career: direct contact with the circle of Anton Sminck van Pitloo and the early exponents of the Posillipo School prompted him to abandon academic veduta painting in favor of plein air painting. During this period, Guindrand absorbed Mediterranean sensibilities, translating the radiance of Campania into a freer technique attentive to atmospheric values, effectively acting as a cultural link between Lyonnaise naturalism and the Neapolitan veduta revival. In this particular work, the Posillipo influence emerges in the loose brushwork and the silvery rendering of the water, where topographical accuracy gives way to a "feeling of place."

The composition, which favors the low horizon line and the contrast between the earthy tones of the boats in the foreground and the diffuse luminosity of the sky, fully reflects the ability to capture the luminous identity of the gulf typical of Pitloo's circle and the young Giacinto Gigante.

Portrait of a Count and High Official, almost certainly active in Northern Italy or in a European court in the Franco-Imperial area towards the mid-1700s

The simultaneous presence of the imperial eagle, the crest with a figure with a bookand and the French lilies in a "partite" coat of arms is very prestigious and indicates a character of very high diplomatic or noble level (probably a jurist).

The combination of the coat of arms and the sumptuous red toga with gold embroidery suggests that the man was not only a noble by blood, but also a high-ranking magistrate or senator. In the 18th century, red was the color of the judiciary and legislative powers (very common for senators from Venice, Turin, or Milan).
