The estate has been in the Leopardi Dittajuti family sine the 4th century AD. Records show that Bishop Leopard de'Leopardi, was sent by Pope Innocent I and appointed as the first bishop of Auximum which is today called Osimo, an ancient town of origin in Piceno, Le Marche. Over the centuries, the Leopardi estate grew steadily and at one time covered over 1,000hectacres. In 1459, Pierdomenico Leopardi was appointed the title of Count Palatino and owner of the the estate. In 1864, the great-grandfather of the current owner, Count Giulio Leopardi, received a great inheritence from a relative, Count Giuseppe Dittajuti, with the obligation to add Dittajuti to his surname, otherwise the inheritance would expire.
