La Tenuta Lamborghini si trova in Umbria, tra il versante sud del Lago Trasimeno e il bellissimo borgo medievale di Panicale. Siamo al confine tra l’Umbria e la Toscana, Cortona e la Val di Chiana distano solo poche decine di chilometri. La tenuta fu acquistata da Ferruccio Lamborghini nei primi anni ’70 che in viaggio in queste zone si innamorò del paesaggio aspro e dolcissimo allo stesso tempo.
Abbandonata la celebre attività automobilistica decise di tornare alle proprie origini: l’agricoltura. La superficie totale è di 100 ettari, suddivisi tra un campo da golf a 9 buche, un agriturismo e la parte vinicola di 32 ettari. Inizialmente furono impiantate diverse varietà sia a bacca rossa che a bacca bianca: oltre al classico Sangiovese e Ciliegiolo, si decise anche per varietà più insolite per quegli anni, quali Merlot e Cabernet Sauvignon. Nella metà degli anni ’90 Patrizia Lamborghini è subentrata nella gestione, continuando e anzi potenziando l’ambizione del padre di produrre vini di alta qualità. Da allora gran parte dei vigneti è stata reimpiantata, eliminando le varietà a bacca bianca e prediligendo il Sangiovese ed il Merlot. L’estrema ricerca della qualità e la volontà di evidenziare le caratteristiche del territorio hanno fatto sì che, a partire dal 1997, la produzione, dalla gestione dei vigneti alla conduzione enologica, subisse un cambio radicale che ha generato vini rossi di altissimo livello qualitativo. The Lamborghini estate lies between the south side of the Trasimeno lake and the beautiful medieval village of Panicale. Situated on the border between Umbria and Tuscany, Cortona and the Chiana valley are only few kms. away from the estate. The property was purchased in the 70’s by Ferruccio Lamborghini who, travelling in this area, fell in love with the softrolling hills landscape. After his retirement from the famous car manufacturing activity he decided to go back to his roots: being a farmer. The total area is 100 hectares divided between a 9 holes golf course, an agriturismo and 32 hectares of vineyards. He started to plant different grape varieties both red and white; beyond the traditional Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo the choice went also to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, unusual varieties at that early stage. In the middle of the 90’s Patrizia Lamborghini succeeded in the management of the estate pursuing, and even strengthening that ambition of making quality wines that her father had in the past. Since then the greater part of the vineyards has been replanted removing the white plants and preferring Sangiovese and Merlot. At the present the new vineyards extend for a total area of 20 hectares but future plans foresee the replanting of the entire vineyard area implementing the modern philosophy of high density planting with selected clones. The extreme search for quality and the will to evidence the characteristics of the territory allowed, in 1997, the beginning of a dramatic improvement regarding both the management of the vineyards and the wine making conduction. The result of these efforts brought forth very high standard modern red wines.
