VALLE STAFFORA VS VALLE VERSA: THIS TIME WE'RE PLAYING FOR KEEPS.
One is made of woods, mountains, small hilltop villages and roads that climb towards the Apennines.
The other is one hill after another: vineyards, w**eries and landscapes shaped through and through by w**e.

Valle Staffora or Valle Versa?

The Staffora has the character of the mountain Oltrepò: the valley follows the Staffora stream and, as you head up towards its higher reaches, the landscape takes on more and more of the Apennines. Varzi is one of its main towns.

The Versa, by contrast, is firmly a valley of hills and vines. Vineyards become the dominant feature of the landscape, and Santa Maria della Versa is one of its principal centres.

But the question isn't which one is "prettier". The question is far harder:
