Corsica's Domaine Gentile is one the three wine producers that were selected for the GreatCulinaryMinds Event held at Villa Maya Resort in the picturesque and serene province of Pisa, this past July 20th, 2019.
For this particular summer event I needed wines from diverse areas of the Mediterranean sea and with marked, distinctive terroir traits, hence the trilogy Corsica-Tuscany-Puglia and wines whose complex dna is steeped in the history of migrations, pilgrimages and geo-political changes.
Three of the menu courses were complemented by third generation winemaker Jean Paul Gentile's wines:
Chef Suzy Fantei's Tyrrhenian Mackerel was paired with Domaine Gentile Blanc Patrimonio Corsica 2016; Tuscany's 'Noble Butcher' Michelangelo Masoni's Grass Fed Beef Role' found its companion for the soirée in Domaine Gentile "Cuvée Grande Expression" Red Patrimonio 2005; TV Personality Chef Ambra Romani's exotic deconstructed Key Lime Pie was accompanied by a Muscat VDL " Cuvée Autentica" Corsica 2013.
We were fortunate enough to have winemaker Jean Paul Gentile and his lovely wife Dominique Stromboni-gentile with us to conduct the tasting and share with us the passionate work behind these wines, but mostly bring a piece of their amazing island to our guests.

"IL MELOGRANO IGT Daunia Nero di T***a Rosé " one of the wines carefully selected for the July 20th 2019 GreatCulinaryMinds International Event at charming Villa Maya Resort in the hilly countryside by Pisa.
One of Puglia's most acclaimed rosé wines, Il Melograno paired gracefully and effortlessly with the two exquisite starters respectively prepared by Toscana Saporita Coooking School's young and upcoming Chef Alessio Jm Da Prato and one of Tuscany's most prominent and distinguished meat and wine authority, Michelangelo Masoni, aka 'Il Nobile Beccaio"- the Noble Butcher.
Sixteen years in production now, Il Melograno comes from a grape varietal native to Daunia, the Northern district of the Puglia region, called Uva di T***a, which is typically vinified in red; its producer, Sergio Grasso, founder of Cantina La Marchesa, has pioneered this rosé typology which has conquered the palates of wine connoisseurs in the United States.
My very special thanks to Marika Maggi and her husband Sergio Grasso for being a part of the GreatCulinaryMinds network of brands, and for continuously being in our corner since 2013, through all our most successful and far-reaching work of promotion of authentic and less explored Italian food & wine culture in the USA.

"IL MELOGRANO IGT Daunia Nero di T***a Rosato" di Cantina La Marchesa ha impreziosito il menu dell'evento GreatCulinaryMinds del 20 Luglio 2019 nello splendido Villa Maya Resort, tra le colline Pisane. Il vino ha ben incontrato, con l'elegante ecletticita' che lo contraddistingue, due antipasti preparati rispettivamente dal giovane e brillante Chef Alessio da Prato di Toscana Saporita Cooking School, e da Michelangelo Masoni, conosciuto come il 'Nobile Beccaio' per via del suo autorevole contributo alla preservazione della cultura enogastronomica della Toscana e alla sua diffusione all'estero. Il Melograno, che e' al sedicesimo anno di produzione, e' un Nero di T***a in purezza; il suo produttore, l'enologo Sergio Grasso, e' stato il primo della Daunia, il distretto Settentrionale della Puglia, a credere in questa tipologia nella versione rosata

July 20th 2019 ~ GreatCulinaryMinds international food & wine event at Villa Maya Resort, in a spectacular Tuscan countryside setting in the Pisa province.
The soirée starts at 7:30 pm with an elegant tasting of local wines and delicacies. Al fresco dining will follow in the picturesque Villa Maya garden.

Ambra Romani, TV's well known and beloved chef and maîtresse pâtissière;
Michelangelo Masoni, aka 'Il Nobile beccaio' [the noble butcher], one of Tuscany's most eminent oenogastronomy authorities;
