Nel vigneto di Popoli è in corso la legatura delle nuove barbatelle messe a dimora per sostituire alcune fallanze, viti che non sono riuscite ad attecchire nei primi anni.
Il progetto di reimpianto è partito nel 2021 ma il suolo ricco di scheletro e molto drenante ha reso difficile l’attecchimento di alcune giovani piante, che ora vengono sostituite. Per favorire la loro crescit è fondamentale che l’apparato radicale si sviluppi rapidamente in profondità per raggiungere le riserve idriche e nutritive.
La legatura serve a orientare il germoglio verso l’alto, aiutando la vite a impostare uno sviluppo verticale e regolare essenziale nei primi anni, dato che la vite, essendo una liana mediterranea, tende naturalmente a distendersi in orizzontale. Successivamente, per evitare che i caprioli si nutrano dei germogli più teneri, alle barbatelle vengono applicate delle protezioni attorno alle viti, indispensabili nell’ambiente incontaminato di Valle Reale.

In our Popoli vineyard, we’re currently tying young vine shoots planted to replace earlier failures—vines that didn’t take root during the first years.
The replanting project began in 2021, but the stony, well-drained soil has made it challenging for some of the young vines to establish themselves. Now, we’re giving them a second chance.
To help the roots grow deep—where water and nutrients lie—we guide the shoots upward with careful tying. Though naturally inclined to spread horizontally (as a true Mediterranean liana), the vine needs vertical support in its early years.
Later, to protect the tender shoots from local deer, we place protective sleeves around each vine. It’s a small but essential gesture in the wild, untouched nature of Valle Reale.
