Icarus is the Polytechnic of Turin Students Research Team for Aerospace activities.

ICARUS PoliTO aim to project and built unmanned airplanes and solid propelled rockets, which main purpose is developing innovative ideas and attending to international competitions, giving it's members the possibility to increase their knowledge while putting them in touch with challenges typical of our engineering field. ICARUS PoliTO ha come obiettivo la progettazione e la realizzazione di velivoli unmanned e razzi a propellente solido finalizzati ad sviluppare sistemi innovativi e partecipare a competizioni universitarie internazionali, aumentando cosi le competenze degli studenti mettendoli a contatto con le sfide tipiche del nostro settore ingegneristico.

🪽The Air Cargo Challenge 2026 has come to an end, and we are proud to have achieved a remarkable result: 7th place out of 34 teams from all over the world. 🌍

We return home satisfied with five successful flights, the dedication of every team member, and the professionalism of our pilot. Our aircraft delivered its best performances while proving highly reliable, completing every flight without technical issues.

This result is the outcome of months of hard work, testing, and teamwork. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed, and special thanks to the organizers, the members of Akamodell Stuttgart, and the University of Stuttgart team for hosting such an outstanding event.

Congratulations to the Udine team for their victory and for earning the opportunity to host the Air Cargo Challenge 2028. See you there! ✈️

🪽We concluded Day 3 at the competition yesterday. Our third flight round was a success, landing us in 4th place. Afterward, in the fourth flight round, we took 7th place, but thanks to more favorable weather conditions, we actually gathered our most points of the competition during this round! On to the next day!✈️

🪽Yesterday was a massive test of our engineering. We started things off with a static load test, proving our structural durability by lifting the aircraft completely from the wingtips.
From there, it was straight to the runway. We scored 4th place during our first flight round, and pushed through deteriorating weather conditions later in the day to secure 7th place for the second round.
We gathered crucial data and the design has proven to be robust. We will keep trying to push today!

🪽Huge day today!

We officially passed our technical inspection, proving that our craftsmanship and electronics are up to standard. Following the inspection, we pitched our project to the ACC Stuttgart evaluating commission.
Tomorrow, the excitement begins! We are heading into our first test flights.

On to the next phase! ✈️

🪽It is time! Team ICARUS PoliTO is gearing up for the Air Cargo Challenge 2026. With our new aircraft Aetos, we’ve pushed the engineering limits—incorporating a twin-motor configuration, a highly optimized wing structure, and an ultra-precise custom telemetry system. We are absolutely thrilled to join this competition and test our design against teams worldwide. The event will take place from June 30th to July 3rd. Stuttgart, we’re ready!✈️
