As we move through the summer, here's a look at the difference Peer Mediation is making across Jersey:

🧑‍🎓 2,210+ students trained since 2022
🏫 13 primary schools
🏫 4 secondary schools

And internationally, according to a survey from CMC:
✨ 96.8% of teachers would recommend Peer Mediation to other schools
✨ 82.4% of pupils said being a Peer Mediator made their lives better
✨ 80.5% of pupils feel more confident

These are young people equipped with skills for life: to solve disagreements, build trust, and support each other through conflict.

During the holidays, these skills don't switch off. This summer, we're encouraging every Peer Mediator to:
☀️ Reflect on how they handle disagreements
📱 Think about how they interact with others online
🧠 Practice the pause — before reacting

The student speeches were the heart of our Graduation Ceremony in May, and a wonderful reminder of the link between Peer Mediation, oracy and growing a generation of leaders committed to peacebuilding. Our Peer Mediators spoke with kindness, clarity and confidence and we couldn't be prouder. Here are some snippets....

💬 "When we give people the chance to talk and feel heard, things can really start to change." — Plat Douet School
💬 "Listening carefully, staying calm and using empathy can help others feel understood." — St Luke's School

💬 "Being kind is so much more important than winning an argument." — St. Peter's School - Jersey

💬 "We help other people solve their problems by talking and listening… we are like referees without the whistle." — Victoria College Preparatory School

A huge well done to every student who took to the stage — you made your school communities, and yourselves, so proud. 🧡

Some important words from this year's PCMMS Graduation Ceremony from our PCMMS Course Leader and esteemed colleague Craig Cathcart

💬 "How you respond to conflict is a matter of choice — constructive, communicative, positive."

It's a line that applies just as much in the boardroom as it does on the playground. The Professional Certificate in Mediation and Mediation Skills equips professionals of any background (HR, legal, leadership, finance, education, trades) with the practical tools to make that choice well, every time conflict arises.

From the classroom to the boardroom, the playground to the courtroom, the culture of mediation is one every workplace can benefit from.

📅 Our next course runs Jan 2027.

Back in May, our 9th Graduation Ceremony was one of those days that stays with you.

We celebrated our newest cohort of adult mediators graduating from the Professional Certificate in Mediation & Mediation Skills (PCMMS), awarded by Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, alongside the powerful voices of our student Peer Mediators.

Responding to the theme 'Resolution in a Restless World', senior school mediators from Le Rocquier School and Grainville School spoke eloquently about the big issues facing schools today, from social media to keeping the peace in a small island community.

💬 "A restless world doesn't have to mean a hopeless one… resolution ripples out and shapes the community we live in." — Le Rocquier School

We were also delighted to hear our first ever Peer Mediator speech delivered in Polish, a welcome reminder that mediation speaks every language.

Thank you to every student, teacher and coordinator who made the day so special.

If you would like to hear more about our Peer Mediation programme in schools, or our Professional Certificate in Peer Mediation (PCMMS) for adults, we'd love to hear from you.

As we head into the summer holidays, we're taking a moment to look back with pride at what has been an incredible year for Peer Mediation in Jersey.

From Year 4 pupils stepping into their very first role as mediators, to senior students driving culture change across secondary schools, the message is clear: young people are leading the way when it comes to conflict resolution.

2,210+ students trained since 2022, across 13 primary schools and 4 secondary schools. Every one of them helping to build calmer, kinder school communities.

☀️ This summer, we're inviting all our Peer Mediators to carry that same calm, respectful mindset into the holidays — at home, online, with friends and family.

🧡 To all our partner schools, coordinators and student mediators: thank you. You've helped make your communities more peaceful, thoughtful and inclusive and that work doesn't stop when school does.

What does it truly mean to lead?

This year, The Resolution Centre has had the privilege of partnering with Victoria College Jersey to help their newly appointed Prefect Team answer exactly that question…Not through traditional leadership theory, but through something far more human: understanding conflict, building trust, and creating genuine connection.

Stepping away from conventional training approaches, the Prefects explored leadership through the lens of conflict resolution. They discovered that conflict isn't something to fear or avoid, it's a natural, powerful part of life that, when navigated well, becomes a catalyst for growth, belonging and stronger teams.

Together, the group dug into their own personal conflict styles, explored what truly matters to them as role models for the College, and put coach approach techniques for feedback and conflict resolution into practice. At the heart of it all was a shared commitment to building a Prefect Team grounded in trust and authenticity.

The programme concluded on a powerful note with the team presenting their vision for the year ahead to the school's senior leadership team, including their Headteacher, Gareth Hughes. As part of this they all committed to a signed document the ten Leadership qualities they jointly promise to be loyal to this year. A moment not just of accountability, but of pride.
