PART II — THE RIGHT

After his first sessions at The Right, James Hick called me straight away.

Different wave. Different demands.

Compared to Shipstern’s, the wave was rounder, drawing more water up the face and requiring a different fit through the curve.

We spoke about adding more rocker to help the board sit deeper, fit tighter and stay controlled at speed.

A new design followed — built specifically for that wave.

It took a few years before it was finally tested properly at The Right.

After that session, the phone rang again.

“It was the perfect fit for that wave.”

That’s what matters.

PART I - SHIPSTERN BLUFF

Design only means something when it’s proven.

Years back, team rider James Hick relocated to Australia and started surfing waves like Shipstern Bluff.

The first tow board I built for him was designed specifically for that wave.

Built to handle speed and control in heavy water.

After his first session riding it at Shipstern’s, James called and said it gave him all the confidence he needed.

Watching a board get put to the test in conditions like this is what shaping is all about.
