As the March 15, 2026 income tax filing deadline approaches, businesses and individuals across Jamaica are finalizing their accounts for the year ending December 31, 2025. Whether you operate on the standard December year-end or an alternative approved accounting period, your income tax return and estimated tax return for the 2026 year must be filed by March 15, 2026.
Who Must File?
Income tax filing isn’t just for companies. Individuals earning any additional income beyond regular employment—such as side hustles, small businesses, and freelance/consulting work—are required to file returns. This includes:
• Athletes
• Entertainers & musicians
• Barbers & hairdressers
• Photographers
• Shopkeepers
• Any independent professional earning income
Non-resident athletes, entertainers, and other professionals who earn income in Jamaica are also required to file. Additionally, anyone making payments to these non-residents must deduct the applicable tax and remit it to the Commissioner of Inland Revenue within 14 days after the end of the month in which the payment was made.
Even if you had no trading activity during your accounting year, you are still legally required to file a return under the Income Tax Act of Jamaica.
