With limited resources, organisations can't do everything at once. The key is knowing where the greatest risks exist and focusing time, people, and investment where they'll have the biggest impact.

That was our experience at the recent Diaspora Conference, where United Consulting International Limited and The AI Transformation Partner proudly exhibited and connected with so many amazing people.

Our booth became a space for exciting discussions around Artificial Intelligence and data privacy Data Privacy, with many visitors asking important questions about how AI can transform businesses while still protecting trust, security, and personal data.

UCI was delighted to be a sponsor of the Mr. and Ms. Law Pageant at the Faculty of Law, UWI Mona, where we proudly presented a special sash, Miss Data Protection.

This recognition highlights the growing importance of data privacy within the legal profession. As Jamaica continues to advance its data protection framework, future legal professionals must understand the critical role they will play in safeguarding personal information, promoting responsible data practices, and upholding trust in an increasingly digital society.

It was a pleasure to be present alongside UCI’s Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Charmon Cushnie, supporting an initiative that connects law, leadership, and data protection awareness. Last week, UCI had the privilege of delivering tailored data privacy workshops for the team at Jamaica National Agency for Accreditation (JANAAC Global Accreditation). As Jamaica’s national accreditation body serving 11 Caribbean islands, JANAAC handles highly sensitive business and technical data across laboratories, inspection bodies, and certification entities. Strong governance isn’t optional, it’s essential.

Our sessions moved beyond theory into real-world application across audits, assessments, records management, and cross-border data transfers, reinforcing that data privacy is not separate from accreditation integrity, it is central to it. By embedding accountability, confidentiality, and risk-based thinking into daily operations, JANAAC continues to strengthen trust, credibility, and international confidence in its mandate.

Excellence in accreditation begins with excellence in data protection.

We commend JANAAC for embracing this very important journey by integrating data privacy as part of its strategic direction.

Recently, I stepped out of the boardroom and into the field for some hands-on immersion work with one of UCI’s clients, a Real Estate Valuation Surveyor.

And let me tell you… I had SO much fun! 😄

From measuring structures and observing site conditions, to understanding how property data is collected, recorded, and verified, it was an eye-opening experience.

But here’s what stood out most: Data privacy is practical.

It’s not just policies, audits, and frameworks.
It lives in:
-Field notes that contain client names and property details
-Measurements linked to ownership records
-Site photographs with identifiable information
-Valuation reports that contain financial and asset data

Every measurement, every note, every image is personal data or commercially sensitive information that must be handled securely.

Standing there in the field, notebook in hand, I was reminded that compliance doesn’t begin in the office, it begins at the point of data collection.

And that’s the beauty of immersion.

You can’t build a strong data protection framework unless you understand how the industry actually operates.

Thank you to our client for allowing me to experience the practical side of valuation surveying. I left with muddy shoes, new knowledge, and an even deeper appreciation for how governance meets reality.

Honoured to be invited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade as a guest speaker to facilitate a Data Privacy Awareness Session for local staff and members of Jamaica’s overseas missions.

This engagement was especially meaningful given the Ministry’s critical role in shaping Jamaica’s foreign policy, managing international partnerships, and representing our national interests globally. In today’s digital world, data privacy is a key pillar of modern diplomacy, supporting trust, secure cross-border information sharing, and strong international relationships.

We explored how responsible data protection practices help safeguard sensitive diplomatic and personal information, strengthen Jamaica’s credibility on the global stage, and reinforce trust with international partners.

I commend the Ministry for its proactive leadership in advancing data privacy and building capacity across its local and overseas teams. Proud to support Jamaica’s continued leadership in privacy, trust, and good governance.

I was honoured to be invited as a guest speaker for Data Privacy Week, under the global theme “Taking Control of Your Data.”

With DBJ’s critical mandate in advancing Jamaica’s business and economic development, the session focused on data privacy in practice, exploring how each department plays a role in secure personal data processing, and how organisations can responsibly manage data across partners and stakeholders within an interconnected ecosystem.

The discussions reinforced an important truth:
data privacy is not just a legal requirement, it is a governance, trust, and accountability issue.

I commend DBJ for its leadership in embedding data protection into its organisational culture and for recognising that strong privacy practices are essential to sustainable development, innovation, and stakeholder confidence.

Grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this important conversation and to support institutions that are taking meaningful steps toward stronger data protection frameworks.
