The 2016 publication - "Green Economy Scoping Study for Jamaica" prodc , UNEP, is increasingly relevant as Jamaica attempts to create a more robust and vibrant economy. The sector is a key component of this "new" economy.
Several construction specific strategies were identified in the report
1. Enact the National Building Act and Enforce the New Building Code of Jamaica
2. Adopt codes and standards that mandate green construction practices
3. Develop a local Green Building Rating System
4. Review and revise the existing Development Orders and other planning guidelines to reflect sustainable planning principles
5. Provide financial incentives for the use of green building solutions
6. Expand training programmes in sustainability related fields to ensure a sufficient supply of adequately trained workers
