IDB Ready to Accelerate Jamaica’s Transition from Stabilization to Stronger Economic Growth – IDB Group President Luis Moreno

President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Group, Mr. Luis Moreno has assured the Prime Minister and Government of Jamaica that the IDB stands ready to help the country accelerate the transition from financial stabilization to stronger and more inclusion economic growth. “That’s why we’re supporting everything from expanding access to microcredit in rural communities to developing psychometric tools to enable banks to evaluate loan applications from women-owned small businesses, or putting together Jamaica’s first angel investor networks,” the IDB President said.

(PHOTO) Mr. Moreno was speaking at the inauguration of the 19th staging of FOROMIC 2016, Latin America and the Caribbean’s most important conference on microfinance and entrepreneurship at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in Montego Bay, Jamaica on October 24.

Bag manufacturer, Franciso Naranjo and his partner are looking to expand production after receiving an Innovation Award at FOROMIC 2015. “The main focus is not just selling in Santiago or Chile, now we are working on reaching the European market. Right now we are investing in machines that we need, so winning this award is for that purpose. We want to continue expanding our workshop and be able to reach more places,” Naranjo shared. “We want to thank FOROMIC for this acknowledgement because this motivates us to keep going forward.

At FOROMIC 2015, in Chile, a food processing company, Foodsanu was the recipient of an Innovation Award which helped it to purchase new equipment and increase productivity. Foodsanu Owner, Ximena Isabel Coba Vinueza, says the award also made it “easier to package products differently and more affordably for the market.” The award was “the kick start I needed,” she emphasized.
