Superb views of the sparkling Caribbean Sea, oozing rustic luxury. Artistic profile
Allan “Zion” Johnson, born Isaac Johnson on May 28, 1930, in St. Andrew, Jamaica, was a self-taught painter associated with Jamaica’s Intuitive art movement. He began experimenting with painting at an early age, decorating pushcarts and Ludo boards before turning seriously to painting and drawing around 1965.
His colourful, imaginative paintings depict Jamaican life, biblical themes, animals and bustling scenes. His distinctive use of unusual perspectives, expressive figures and vibrant colours reflects his religious convictions and his unique vision of the world. He became a recognised figure in Jamaican Intuitive art and exhibited regularly from 1980. He died in 2001.
