As ’s cities continue to expand, resilient wastewater infrastructure is essential to public health, sustainable growth, and long-term water security. The Al Wakra & Al Wukair Sewage Treatment Plant is a key project supporting these objectives.

Engicon contributed to the project through the CME Joint Venture, comprising Elegancia, Metito, and Çalık Enerji, supporting quality supervision activities throughout construction.

Our team played a key role in upholding the project’s quality standards through active on-site supervision and continuous coordination with all project stakeholders, including the EPC contractor, subcontractors, the client, and regulatory authorities. This integrated approach has strengthened collaboration, improved workflow efficiency, and ensured consistent adherence to technical and safety requirements, contributing to a more controlled delivery process and the long-term reliability of the infrastructure.

Initiatives of this scale play a vital role in advancing sustainable urban growth and ensuring long-term water security in regions facing water scarcity.

Engicon has been appointed as the local consultant to the multi-disciplinary team led by Níall McLaughlin Architects (NMLA), winner of the international design competition for the Museum of Jesus’ Baptism at Bethany, Jordan.

The competition was commissioned by the Foundation for the Development of the Lands Adjacent to the Baptism Site and managed by Malcolm Reading Consultants. The six-month selection process brought together a shortlist of seven international studios and an Advisory Panel with expertise spanning architecture, landscape, museums, and heritage.

The winning architect’s concept presents the museum as an east-west journey shaped by a narrative sequence of wilderness, water, and witness. The design is intended to respond sensitively to the site and the adjacent UNESCO World Heritage context.

Engicon’s appointment as local consultant supports the team’s progression of the design in Jordan, working in partnership with the Foundation and in coordination with relevant stakeholders. The museum is planned to open in 2030 to mark the bimillennial of Christ’s baptism, and is expected to become a globally significant spiritual and cultural landmark that deepens the visitor experience at the Baptism Site on the east bank of the Jordan River.

Engicon Participates in EBRD Iraqi Market Workshop.

On January 18th, Engicon participated as a featured speaker at a full-day workshop organized by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) focused on Iraqi market entry opportunities for Jordanian companies. The event, held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Amman, brought together business leaders, industry experts, and companies interested in expanding their operations to Iraq.

Engicon's Managing Director of Iraq, Syria and Yemen, Hussein Al-Kurd, served as a panelist in a key session titled "Doing Business in Iraq". He shared the unique experience and insights from the company's operations in the Iraqi market. The panel discussion provided attendees with operational field perspectives on navigating the Iraqi business environment, regulatory frameworks, and other challenges.

The event marked the beginning of EBRD's operations in Iraq and aimed to support Jordanian companies seeking regional expansion. While the Iraqi market has long been a natural destination for Jordanian businesses, effective market entry requires precise understanding of the business environment, regulatory frameworks, operational mechanisms, and appropriate partnerships.

The Jordan National Financial Centre, designed by Engicon in partnership with Woods Bagot for the Jordan Securities Commission (JSC), is now fully constructed. Originally conceived to consolidate the country's key capital market institutions in a single integrated campus, the complex has since been adapted—through an Engicon-led redesign (in a joint venture with Al Baha Engineering Consultants) of internal spaces and key building systems—to house the Ministry of Finance and the Income and Sales Tax Department.

Located in Amman's Arjan district, the 96,000 m² development was planned to bring together the Amman Stock Exchange, Securities Depository Center, broker offices, bank branches and financial training facilities. Its flexible structural and services design has enabled the building to be efficiently repurposed for its current governmental role, including large public halls, administrative offices, meeting and training facilities.

Engicon provided full architectural and engineering design services including geotechnical studies, structural systems, MEP infrastructure, acoustics, interiors and landscape architecture over a 50-month design period from 2007–2010.

The facility features layered security zones, flexible structural grids, redundant power and IT systems, and high-performance HVAC designed for equipment-intensive and high-occupancy spaces—enabling the centre to support transparency and operational efficiency for both Jordan's capital markets and its financial administration.

Launch of the Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF) for Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ) Infrastructure Projects

Engicon, in partnership with ILF Consulting Engineers and GFA Consulting Group GmbH, has launched the ESMF for WAJ (وزارة المياه والري - سلطة المياه - سلطة وادي الاردن) infrastructure projects, marking a key step toward strengthening environmental and social safeguards under the KfW-funded program “Support of Water Sector Reforms – Consulting Services for Accompanying Measures.”

The main objective of this ESMF is to institutionalize the screening, assessment and management of environmental and social risks associated with projects implemented by the WAJ and funded by various international financial institutions (IFI), ensuring alignment with both national legislation and IFI standards.

The preparation of the ESMF started in February 2024 and included the development of several environmental and social instrument templates, such as the Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP), Land Acquisition Plan (LAP), Screening Checklist, and other supporting tools to guide effective E&S management throughout project implementation. It was done with continuous collaboration and engagement of WAJ Environmental and Social Standards Directorate (ESSD), the KfW and several IFIs.

On 13 October 2025, a disclosure session was held to present the ESMF, bringing together around 45 participants from the WAJ, KfW, World Bank Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan & Pakistan, AFD - Agence Française de Développement, وزارة البيئة الأردنية - Ministry of Environment and the water utilities. The session fostered stakeholder engagement, knowledge sharing, and collaborative discussion on the implementation of the framework.

This project represents a significant achievement for Engicon, highlighting our expertise in environmental and social management for large-scale water infrastructure projects and reinforcing our role as a trusted partner in advancing sustainable development in Jordan’s water sector.

At Engicon, we develop structured guidelines and toolkits that help institutions implement effective building rehabilitation projects.

One of the many valuable projects we have worked on is the Rehabilitation Construction Toolbox for Sanitary Public Schools, developed for the Ministry of Education (MoE) and funded by GIZ,German International Cooperation. This initiative addresses the impact of increasing student numbers on public schools in Jordan’s host communities, where overcrowding has placed significant strain on educational infrastructure. Many schools face severe hygiene challenges due to inadequate sanitation facilities, limiting access to clean and safe environments for students.

Engicon conducted site assessments, engaged stakeholders, and compiled sustainable water and hygiene solutions into an easy-to-use manual. This toolbox provides technical teams with a reference for rehabilitating sanitary facilities and outdoor school spaces, ensuring improved hygiene, accessibility, and overall learning conditions for students.

Engicon’s foundation is built on ambitious environmental projects, and over the years, we have expanded our expertise to provide comprehensive environmental studies and engineering services. Our work encompasses feasibility studies, detailed design, construction supervision, and environmental compliance, helping clients mitigate pollution, manage waste, and develop sustainable solutions.

One of our key projects is the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the Aqaba-Amman Water Desalination and Conveyance (AAWDC) Project, developed for Jordan’s Ministry of Water and Irrigation in collaboration with Tetra Tech International Development and the European Investment Bank (EIB). The project will deliver 300 million cubic meters of drinking water annually by desalinating seawater from the Gulf of Aqaba.

The ESIA study conducted by Engicon covered various environmental and social disciplines, including assessments of the physical environment, marine and biological ecosystems, and social impacts in accordance with both national and international requirements. Given the project’s wide geographic footprint, multiple public consultation activities were conducted, engaging government representatives, NGOs, and local communities to ensure transparency and stakeholder participation.

In line with sustainability principles, the project integrates renewable energy solutions through a dedicated photovoltaic (PV) facility in Quweira, reducing carbon emissions and ensuring energy efficiency. As the ESIA practitioner, Engicon has ensured that the project aligns with environmental and social best practices. By integrating responsible environmental planning with renewable energy solutions, Engicon is shaping a more sustainable future.
