That’s why it was a long-held wish of mine to get an insight into the production of Jordan’s most popular gourmet sweet producers.

Austria is often associated with winter sports, the city of Vienna, Mozart, and the iconic Sachertorte. But have you ever explored what the country offers in terms of research and innovation?

This 1-hour online session will introduce participants to Austria’s vibrant and globally connected research environment. Organized by Euraxess Austria (.worldwide and .forschungwirkt), the event will provide an overview of the Austrian research landscape and explain how researchers can participate in European funding programs such as Horizon Europe. Participants will also hear directly from an international researcher sharing their personal experience of living and working in Austria.

Target group: Early-career researchers, including doctoral candidates and early postdoctoral researchers, who are interested in taking the next step in their academic career in Austria.

The country is globally known for exporting high-quality machinery, motor vehicles and automotive parts, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, steel products, and food specialties.

This strong export culture highlights Austria’s reputation for precision engineering, innovation, and reliable manufacturing.

♻️ Austrian researchers have found a way to turn unsorted aluminium scrap into high‑quality sheet material.

Montanuniversität Leoben has introduced a process that turns mixed aluminium scrap from end‑of‑life vehicles into formable sheet material.

⚙️ The method works without sorting or adding primary aluminium. It relies on the controlled use of accompanying elements that would normally require removal. These elements are distributed within the microstructure in a way that supports strength and ductility.

📉 Europe generates an estimated seven to nine million tonnes of aluminium scrap from vehicles each year. Much of it is used for cast alloys with limited performance. As combustion engines decline, this outlet is shrinking. Without other options, industries may face higher CO2 emissions by substituting with primary material.

🔬 The new process provides a direct and circular route to secondary sheet alloys. It has been recognised by research journal Nature Communications and highlighted by Nature Reviews Materials.

Industrial partners are now working with the researchers to examine wider uses and prepare for large‑scale application.

This approach may help international manufacturers secure stable secondary aluminium streams as mobility systems evolve.
