GENDA subsidiary GENDA GiGO Entertainment (Minato, Tokyo) announced on the 15th that it will close its amusement center, "GiGO Akihabara No. 1," in Akihabara, Tokyo, on August 31st. The facility is the company's oldest building-based arcade, and its distinctive red exterior has made it one of Akihabara's tourist attractions. The closing is due to the expiration of the fixed-term building lease. After the closure, competitor Matahari Entertainment (Kawasaki City) will open a new amusement center.
GiGO Akihabara No. 1 opened in 1992 as "Hi-Tech Land Sega Shintoku." In 2020, GENDA acquired Sega's arcade business, establishing its current management structure. The company's other three stores in Akihabara will continue to operate.
GENDA GiGO Entertainment is a major arcade chain with over 470 locations both domestically and internationally. In addition to arcades, it also operates capsule toy shops and cafes.
