JPY shows the weakness the first time in last 6 years on Bank of Japan (BoF) announcement.

The Japanese Yen has been on an astounding run of weakness over the past two weeks, with multi-year highs printing in all of USD/JPY, AUD/JPY and CAD/JPY.

The U.S dollar on Monday morning (28 March 2022) hit the highest level since March 2016 in Asian trading, climbing to 122.05 Yen range.

While the USD has been range-bound for much of March, the Australian Dollar has continued to show strength. But that additional AUD strength has been on full display in AUD/JPY as well. The rate was 85 some weeks ago, but it now already taken-out the 90 handles, too, on its way to a fresh 6.5 year high.

$CAD/JPY is absolutely flexing on the markets. Passing 97 which is the midpoint of its historical range on the way to printing its first ever, 12 consecutive day climb.

A weaker yen enables used car exporters, to increase the number of sold units. It always happens, when the Japan Yen rate is low, the number of used cars exports increases, since the prices for cars decrease then converted in USD, AUD or CAD.

"Obon" Auction for August 2021 (AKEBONO)

Obon (お盆) is an annual event commemorating one's ancestors. It is believed that each year during Obon, the ancestors' spirits return to this world in order to visit their relatives.

Traditionally, lanterns are hung in front of houses to guide the ancestors' spirits, Obon dances (Bon Odori) are performed, graves are visited and food offerings are made at house altars and temples. At the end of Obon, floating lanterns are put into rivers, lakes, and seas in order to guide the spirits back into their world. The customs followed vary strongly from region to region.

Most Japanese businesses close for up to a week for the Obon Summer holidays and this includes the Japanese car auctions.

Full holidays will be on August 12, August 14, Agust 15, and August 16, 2021. You won't be able to bid for cars at that time.

The skyline R34 GT-R keeps setting a records on prices! In December 2020 we saw a M-
Spec Nur getting sold for 37,000,000 Japanese yen FOB. On the 11th of July 2021 a V-Spec 2 nur was sold for 55,000,000 Japanese yen. Now, in Yahoo's exclusive collectible cars auction, the same V-Spec 2 nur was sold for a whopping 60,500,001 Japanese yen, reaching well above $500,000 for the first time!

What makes it so valuable?!
This Nissan R34 Skyline GT-R Vspec 2 nur is the final evolution model of the second generation GT-R. It is the ultimate 'Godzilla'. This particular R34 has never been registered and is therefore not considered as a used car. In face, this 20 years old car has only 10 kms on the odometer! You could say this is literally a brand new skyline, and one of the rarest on top of that. Only 700 were produced with just 160 in white color.
