Kyoto winters see temperatures drop to around 0°C in the early morning.

On such days, we light charcoal and set it up in the Hibachi. It serves as a heater, and placing the Tetsubin Iron Kettle on top allows us to enjoy warm tea anytime.
We also recommend drinking coffee brewed with this water, as it enhances the smoothness.

This calligraphy piece is displayed just inside the entrance to Komon Gallery.

It features the Kanji for “Komon (小紋).”
Last year, when Japanese swordsmith Kunihira Kawachi visited the gallery, he kindly wrote it for us.

Each stroke radiates a powerful energy, conveying the dedication he has poured into his life's work of Japanese sword making.

We display it at the entrance so that visitors to Komon Gallery can immediately sense this essence of Japan, its craftsmanship, and its spirit.
We would be delighted if you could take a moment to view it when you visit.

We would like to extend our warmest wishes for a Happy New Year⛩️

Last year, 2025 marked a new chapter for Komon as we opened a new gallery in Kyoto.

Since our founding, Komon has focused on showcasing beautiful crafts from Japan, a small island nation, to the world.

Throughout last year, we gradually introduced items related to Japanese kitchen knives, such as the Tamahagane Dog Tag and Japanese swords.
Now, having moved into this century-old traditional house as Komon Gallery, we must move forward and show clearly our concrete path forward.

The direction we've been carefully discussing internally for some time will fully take shape in 2026.

We sincerely hope you will continue to follow our activities in 2026.
And when you visit Kyoto, please make an appointment—we look forward to welcoming you.

The Tamahagane Dog Tags, HYŌKETSU 2025 Winter series, which we recently began selling have all sold out within a few days after sales began

Each Tamahagane dog tag comes with a certificate of authenticity and is shipped in a Kiri paulownia wood box. We are gradually updating our offerings so you can enjoy not just the dog tags themselves, but the entire aesthetic world we provide, including the accessories that complement them.

Unfortunately, the next sale date of the Tamahagane Dog Tag is undecided.

Furthermore, we are planning to offer various other items in the coming year, 2026. We appreciate your continued support and following.

HYŌKETSU — the third release in our Tamahagane Dog Tag series.

This year 2025 in Japan, it felt as though autumn barely existed. The heat of summer gave way abruptly to days of sudden cold. One morning, our craftsman noticed a bucket of water left in the forge overnight.

By dawn, a thin layer of ice had quietly formed along its outer edge—freezing from the outside inward.
Inspired by this story, the dog tags similarly express the process of freezing from the outside in using Hamon, it evokes the quiet arrival of winter, much like the ice in this bucket.

HYŌKETSU was created to reflect the arrival of winter—the sharpness of the cold, the silence of the morning, and the subtle beauty found in change.

Our popular Susudake Chopsticks are back in stock.
A thoughtful and timeless Christmas gift🎄

Since we use natural bamboo, each piece naturally has its own unique character.
Soot bamboo is bamboo that was once part of the framework of old Japanese farmhouses. It was naturally smoked for decades (sometimes over 100 years) by the smoke from the hearth.
Therefore, depending on where it was installed, there are differences in how it was smoked, and imagining that might be part of the fun.

Each pair is handcrafted in Okuizumo, Shimane, by skilled artisans. No coating or paint is used — their natural sheen comes only from careful polishing.

Available now at Komon Gallery as well as Komon's EC shop.

Bring your kitchen knives back to life with Kasumi Polishing Powder.
A gentle touch inspired by Sakai’s long tradition of knife polishing.

When mixed with water, the powder turns into a smooth paste that refines the blade’s surface, restoring the soft, misty glow unique to a true Kasumi finish.
The included sponge allows for effortless and even application, helping to preserve the beauty and longevity of your knives.

Formulated by Ivan Gomez Fonseca, this polishing powder carries forward the craftsmanship of Sakai, Japan—crafted for both professionals and enthusiasts who value the quiet art of hand-finishing.

This Kasumi Powder is available for purchase at Komon's online shop or at Komon Gallery Kyoto.

Komon Gallery is housed in a 100-year-old traditional Japanese townhouse, carefully restored to honor its original character while welcoming new life.

A tatami room, a Tokonoma decorated with art, and an Engawa that extends from the room to the outside. The furniture has a vintage feel to it, providing you with a sense of old yet new comfort.
It might be nice to take a break on the Engawa(縁側) porch and enjoy some tea or coffee.

At Komon Gallery, we showcase and offer a curated selection of Japanese crafts. Each work is chosen with care, not only for its beauty, but also for the story it carries — the traditions, techniques, and spirit of the artisan behind it.

We believe these crafts are not merely functional items, but expressions of culture and artistry that enrich everyday life. Through them, we hope to share a sense of authenticity and timelessness that transcends borders.
