Mercury in beauty products does not only pose a risk to consumers. When these products are discarded, the mercury they contain can also enter waste streams and eventually the environment, adding to mercury pollution that may otherwise go unnoticed.

Mercury has no place in any product, especially those applied directly to our skin.

From cosmetics to consumer goods, the presence of mercury is not just a regulatory issue. It is a public health risk.

Exposure continues to disproportionately affect vulnerable communities, and this is something the global scientific and regulatory community cannot ignore.
We stand with the mission of the Minamata Convention on Mercury to eliminate mercury use and protect both people and the environment.

But advocacy alone is not enough.

Enforcement starts in the laboratory, through accurate detection, reliable screening, and uncompromised data. Whether it is identifying mercury in cosmetics or monitoring trace contamination, 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞.

Because if mercury is present, we must be able to find it, and if we can find it, we can remove it.
