Work in Japan & explore the country for a year or longer
As Working Holiday, you live in your host country for a limited time (up to 1 year), get a paid job and earn money. This makes it possible to finance your stay abroad.
Our program helps you to work in Japan for up to a year, so you can finance your entire stay there. We make this possible and tell you how to live relatively cheaply in a costly country like Japan and still experience what Japan offers. There’s no better way to experience Japan than by working there at the same time as you travel.
Who can take advantage of this opportunity?
You need a working holiday visa. You can apply for a Working Holiday Visa at the Japanese embassy/ consulate in your home country if you meet the following conditions:
You are 18-30 years of age
Evidence of a booked return ticket
Proof of money (bank statement), of roughly 200,000 yen (about 1800 USD; differs slightly depending on country) for your maintenance during the period of initial stay in Japan.
You are healthy and don’t have any criminal records.

What type of jobs can I do?
You only get a job after your arrival in Japan, because you have to go to a job interview and have a Japanese tax number as well as a bank account. We can not confirm a specific job with the completion of your booking and before your arrival. However, all participants will usually find a job within one month if they are seriously interested and at least have a basic knowledge of the Japanese language.
Legally, you can take all paid jobs in Japan, but jobs in certain bars, nightclubs & the gambling sector can’t be taken.
Common work for working holiday makers are:
Waiters, waitresses, & dishwashers in restaurants, coffee shops, & fast-food chains
Sales assistants in shops if language skills are sufficient)
Fruit pickers and farm workers
Room attendants, front desk staff in hotels, ryokans (traditional Japanese guesthouses) and ski resorts
English Teachers
Work in (English speaking) childcare facilities
Babysitters & Au Pair
Sports trainers (with related experience)
Language teacher and English / conversation in language cafés, translation activities (eg English, Chinese)
Photo model for advertising and actors on television
Work in manufacturing, e.g. a bread factory
Package delivery services companies and the like.
Note:
Although it is not critical to speak Japanese to land a job in Japan, it is notably simpler (and faster) if you have a fundamental level of understanding. You may also pick out to practice Japanese prior to your arrival. However, you may also find it really helpful to purchase yourself some courses when you arrive. Check out our Japanese language course, the place you can meet like-minded travelers and practice your new language together. Before long you’ll be in a position to say a lot greater than simple greetings.
People with a basic knowledge of Japanese (basic conversation) will usually find a job with our help within the first month.
The wages per hour for such jobs are roughly ¥ 980-1500 / hour (about 6.50-12.40 €). Both full-time and half-time jobs are available.
Those who have better skills in Japanese language and/or vocational qualifications can also find better-paid jobs.
It cost you ¥ 100,000 to participate in the program.
