june 2nd, 2024.
we sat in a dark theater and watched kung fu panda,
sharing popcorn in the glow of the screen.
after, we walked out and got vanilla ice cream.
somewhere between the popcorn and the ice cream,
i started to feel.
i'd spent my whole life not feeling. it kept me safe.
nothing could reach me.
then T did.
everything that started that night,
i wear on my bandages now.
i thought it would last forever.
it didn't. 💔
nobody came tonight. i cut the cake anyway.
happy birthday to the part of me she made.

i read once that you should buy yourself flowers.
that you don't need a reason. that you don't need anyone.
so i did. white ones.
i carried them home past every couple on the street,
put them in water by the window,
and waited to feel whatever you're supposed to feel.
they were beautiful for six days.
i was glad someone got them, at least.

i bought the umbrella at a konbini. 500 yen, clear plastic, the kind everyone has.
the rain stopped twenty minutes ago.
i'm still under it.
not because i'm getting wet.
because folding it up means the night is over,
and this is the only thing
that stayed over me the whole way.
